PINEVILLE, N.C. -- Pineville police believe they may have found the man responsible for seriously injuring a woman in a hit-and-run accident early Thursday.

Adela Diaz-Sanchez, 29, was walking to work at a nearby hotel along Willow Ridge Road when she was hit by a red pickup truck that left the scene around 7:30 a.m., authorities said.

Investigators analyzed debris at the scene and thought the truck might be a Ford F150. They said the crash broke off the passenger’s side mirror and probably did damage to the right front turn signal.

Police began checking the tag numbers of people who live in the neighborhood where the victim was hit and discovered resident Misael Gregorio Pablo owns a red Ford F150. According to authorities, Pablo was recently charged with driving while impaired and also had outstanding warrants. His license was also revoked.

Officers found Pablo, but not the truck. They said the man would not tell them where to find the vehicle, so they charged him with obstruction of justice, resisting arrest and delaying an investigation.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office informed Pineville police that Pablo is in the country illegally. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents said he had a deportation hearing scheduled for March 7.

He has not been charged in the hit-and-run crash.

Diaz-Sanchez has been discharged from Carolinas Medical Center. Her husband said she is recovering at home with him and their 2-month-old daughter. He said she is temporarily death.

Officers are still trying to find Pablo’s truck. The tag number is VRM-4850. Anyone who sees the vehicle is urged to call police.
