Catching Up on the Immigration Circus [Mark Krikorian]

*According to DNA testing by the State Department, as many as 30,000 bogus relatives of Somali refugees may have been admitted to the United States since 2003. (More here.)

*"The Department of Homeland Security has significantly narrowed the scope of a planned crackdown on federal contractor's employment of illegal immigrants." Contractors will still have to use the E-Verify system, but only those with large contracts, and only for workers actually on the contracts, as opposed to all their workers. It's still not narrow enough for the ACLU/Chamber of Commerece axis.

*"Federal immigration officials allowed scores of violent criminals — some ordered deported decades ago — to walk away from Harris County Jail despite the inmates' admission to local authorities that they were in the country illegally, a Houston Chronicle investigation found." (Follow-up story here.)

*As of Monday, visas are no longer needed for most visitors from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovakia. Because, you know, no visitor from Eastern Europe would ever think of staying on as an illegal alien.

*Illegal aliens plan to march on Washington the day after Obama's inauguration to demand amnesty. Bring it on!

*Communist Nobel laureate Rigoberta Menchu stumps for amnesty in Iowa.

When I went across country by train in 2003 I met a student heading home to Iowa who had been a flower delivery driver in Detroit who had been a human smuggler. The people he was smuggling were Eastern European and were paying thousands of dollars to get across behind the cartons of roses. Customs had given his company rapid passage rights which he had abused. If there is poor exit tracking of course the visa free entry will be abused.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
