    NE-ACLU alleges wrong doing

    ACLU alleges wrong doing

Published: Tuesday, April 21, 2009 4:28 PM CDT
LEXINGTON – The ACLU is turning up the pressure on Dawson County and four other Nebraska counties threatening a civil lawsuit amidst allegations of discrimination toward illegal immigrants looking to be wed in the state.

“We have an active and ongoing problem,’’ said legal director Amy Miller. “It’s embarrassing and wretched in-your-face discrimination.’’

The ACLU launched its investigation, Miller said, months ago after complaints from attorneys and immigrant advocates. The organization sent human testers — a Hispanic with a heavy accent — to the five counties to check compliance with the law.

Each county failed, Miller said, by asking for information beyond what state law requires.

She said the state does not impose many restrictions on who can get married. Nebraska Revised Statute 42-104 states: “Each party shall present satisfactory documentary proof of and shall swear or affirm to the application giving: (1) full name of each applicant and residence; and (2) the place, date, and year of birth of each.’’

According to the Dawson County Clerk’s Web site requirements in the county to be married are: “Before a marriage license can be issued, each applicant shall present two (2) forms of ID: (a) U.S. Government issued PICTURED ID such as: Driver’s License, State ID card, Resident Alien Card, or Work Authorization Card. (b) Birth Certificate or Social Security Card. (If birth certificate is not in English – a notarized translation is required.)â€

Illegal have no right in America.

And I have known illegals and legal immigrants to get married in America and be married in another country.

In other words they are married to two different people at the same time. Bigamy? or not? Who decides us or the other country or neither?

Marriage is a legal contract. It is a legal union which is likely to produce children in the long run. The prospective partner and subsequent children of the union are put at risk if marriage licenses are given out willy-nilly to anyone without verification. This allows a person to marry more than once using alternate identities. The stability of the life of the prospective partner and later children is at risk. All marriage license applicants should be carefully verified. I would go so far as to say they should be fingerprinted. Anyone not willing to do this has something to hide and is not really serious about the committment they are undertaking.

Once upon a time a medical certificate was a requirement for marriage license.

Do state still require these, even?

Everyone should be E-Verified, IMAGE, and 287g Program run, too. People are marrying and not knowing that someone is not an American or not.

There should even be a class required to take on international marriages.

Keep illegal aliens out of the country and they wouldn't be putting themselves in a position of discrimination by coming here illegally in the first place.

And how many are marrying a citizen because the citizen was given a few thousand for nothing more than the marriage ceremony and certificate, even though they will never live together.
I was offered $10,000 to marry some Rumanian kid years younger than me. After I punched the guy, he made the same proposal to a good friend for $5,000 and she sliced and diced him verbally.
