February 8, 2013 Dear Jane Doe, Thank you for contacting me about immigration reform. As a U.S. Senator, my highest priority is the national security of the United States, and illegal immigration poses a threat to our security. Currently, there are an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. with no record of who they are or what they may have brought into the country. To ensure security for our citizens, we must secure our borders and enforce the laws we have in place. The federal government’s failure to act has forced states and cities to carry the burden with limited means. This is unacceptable. Congress needs to step up and make the tough decisions needed to secure our border, stop illegal immigration and reform our current legal immigration system. I will fight for the enforcement of our laws and oppose attempts to reward illegal actions, just as I did for the State of Nebraska as a State Senator. I do not support amnesty for anyone who entered this country illegally. In the upcoming weeks, Congress will consider solutions to the current immigration problems.
