Man accused of sexually assaulting Nebraska girl

    April 6, 2010 9:25 AM ET

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - Police in North Platte have arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting his girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter.

Police say Jesus Carrillo was living with his girlfriend in North Platte when he molested the girl. Police say Carrillo is an illegal immigrant, so he's in the custody of federal immigration authorities.

Police Lt. Mike Swain says the molestation was reported March 24, but Carrillo wasn't found until Sunday.

Online court documents do not indicate Carrillo has been formally charged in the case.

This is from the North Platte Telegraph newspaper. Notice it doesn't say a thing about his immigration status.

Jesus Carillo has been charged with third-degree sexual assault of a child stemming from an investigation that began on March 24.

According to North Platte Police Lt. Mike Swain, police were investigating an incident where a woman's young daughter was being fondled by her then live-in boyfriend, which police say was Carillo. When police investigated the report, Carillo had already left the residence and police were unable to locate him.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and Carillo was located in the early hours of Sunday morning and booked into the Lincoln County Jail on the Class 3A felony charge. If convicted on the current charge, Carillo could spend up to 5 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.
