EL CENTRO - Border Patrol agents working in the El Centro sector on Interstate 8 seized nearly 22 pounds of cocaine, this week, worth $746,400 on the streets, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.

Dogs alerted the agents to the possibility of drugs when a silver colored vehicle entered the checkpoint on Monday. Agents found several packages hidden inside the dashboard area.

The driver and the passenger, who are American, were both arrested, and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for prosecution.

It's been a busy year for the El Centro Sector Border Patrol. So far, agents have seized more than 530 pounds of cocaine, worth an estimated $17 million.
