Nearly 73 pounds of cocaine seized at Ariz. border
by Associated Press (January 9th, 2012 @ 4:45pm)
SAN LUIS, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say they've seized nearly 73 pounds of cocaine while conducting an inspection of a vehicle at the San Luis Port.
Officers referred a 41-year-old San Luis man traveling with his wife and three children for a secondary inspection of his truck when he attempted to enter the United States.
After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers removed 30 packages of cocaine from the spare tire.
Authorities say the cocaine had an estimated value of more than $660,000.
The drugs and the truck were processed for seizure. The man was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations while his family was released. The man's name wasn't released.
