Nearly two dozen illegal immigrants found in Phoenix home

PHOENIX (AP) - DPS officers say they've taken 21 suspected illegal immigrants into custody at a drop house in west Phoenix this morning.

Lieutenant Bob Ticer says DPS got a tip last night from another police agency that the home on West Virginia avenue (near Thomas road and 43rd avenue) was being used to hold immigrants.

Ticer says members of the DPS gang unit began watching the home and saw a van drive up, then leave. They stopped the van and arrested two men on human smuggling and firearms charges.

A DPS SWAT team raided the house this morning and found 21 immigrants and another suspected smuggler. The immigrants were turned over to immigration officials.

Ticer says the migrants in the house were headed to locations in nine states, from Washington to New York to Florida.
