CBP Officers Arrest Netherlands Citizen for False Claim to U.S. Citizenship
    Niagara Falls, N.Y.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the arrest of a citizen of the Netherlands who made a false claim to U.S. citizenship.

On January 19, CBP officers encountered 27-year-old Niels Thalens as he applied for entry into the United States as a pedestrian at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing, Niagara Falls, N.Y. Thalens presented a Texas drivers license as identification and advised the primary CBP officer that he was a U.S. citizen born in Texas.

The CBP officer asked Thalens if he had documentary proof of his U.S. citizenship. Thalens advised the CBP officer that he only had in his possession his Texas driver’s license and stated that he thought it was sufficient documentation to cross the U.S./Canada border. It was explained to Thalens that a driver’s license was merely an identity document and was by no means proof of citizenship. Thalens was then referred for a secondary enforcement exam.

During the course of the inspection, CBP officers conducted a search of Thalens for weapons and contraband, when his shoes were removed. CBP officers discovered a valid Netherlands passport bearing Thalens name and photograph in one of his shoes. The passport did not contain a U.S. visitor visa, which was required for his entry, and he was found to have no legal right to enter or remain in the United States.

During the interview, Thalens admitted to being a citizen of the Netherlands and claimed he attempted to fly into the United States from Pearsons International Airport in Toronto, Canada, three days prior, but was refused entry by CBP officers due to his lack of entry documentation. It was also discovered that Thalens had previous lived illegally in Texas in 2005. As Thalens falsely and willfully represented himself as a citizen of the United States, he was arrested by CBP officers for fraud and false statements.

“Beginning January 31, 2008, oral claims to citizenship will come to an end and travelers will have to present documentary proof of their citizenship,â€

This is odd. It said he didn't have a visa for entry into the U.S. I think the Nethyerlands is on the visa waiver program. The countries of Europe only need a valid passport to come into the U.S.

Thousands of illegal invaders from Mexico undermine America by using false documents to steal jobs and benefits from American Citizens and I rarely hear of any of them going to jail, much less removed from the country.

Had this been an illegal invader from Mexico we probably would have had la raza protesting and demanding this person be granted entry as sell as full citizenship to further exploit this country.

Sorry if I sound pessimistic, but that's how insane this whole issue has become.
