Suspect arrested in alleged immigrant trafficking

LAUGHLIN - A suspect was arrested on Thursday afternoon for trafficking illegal immigrants after an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle parked along a dirt road with six Latino males inside.

An officer from the Laughlin Substation of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was driving by when he noticed the suspicious Honda Element parked near mile marker 2 on State Route 164.

He later saw a male and female in the desert pull their pants up and fix their clothing. After questioning, the officer found the male was allegedly trafficking illegal aliens and had reportedly attempted to sexually assault a 20-year-old Latina female.

The suspect, Rodolfo Juarez-Alvarez, was arrested for trafficking in persons for illegal purposes.


The officer had the male and female in custody when the six Latino males jumped out of the vehicle and escaped into the desert.

More than 20 backpacks and coats lay scattered on the ground about 50 to 70 feet behind the car. The department said the spot is “suspected to be a staging area for illegal activity.â€
