New England Border Patrol Chief Charge With Hiring Illegals
New England Border Patrol chief charged with hiring illegals
December 5, 2008 11:07 AM Email| Comments (81)| Text size – + By Jonathan Saltzman and Andrew Ryan, Globe Staff
The regional director of Homeland Security, Customs, and Border Protection was charged today with repeatedly hiring illegal immigrants to clean her Salem home after one cleaner wore a wire during an undercover investigation.
Lorraine Henderson is the director of the Port of Boston, overseeing 190 armed federal officers who patrol major airports and shipping terminals in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. She is expected to appear today in US District Court in Boston on a charge of encouraging an illegal immigrant to remain in the country.
"She’s supposed to be deporting aliens, not hiring them," said Assistant US Attorney Brian T. Kelly, chief of the public corruption unit.
Henderson was arrested on the criminal complaint this morning at her home in Salem by agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office of Professional Responsibility. If convicted of the charge, she faces as much as 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
According to an eight-page affidavit unsealed today, Henderson had employed a Brazilian woman to clean her home for $75 to $80 every few weeks for several years. Henderson's fellow officers at US Customs and Border Protection told her in 2005 and 2006 that it was against the law to hire illegal immigrants and urged her to find another housekeeper. Not only did she ignore the advice, according to the affidavit, but when the housekeeper took time off to have a baby, Henderson also allegedly hired two of the housekeeper's Brazilian friends who were also in the country illegally.
After having a baby, the original housekeeper allegedly came back to work for Henderson, who counseled her to avoid detection by law enforcement. The housekeeper told her, according to the affidavit, that she had been living in the United States illegally for seven years after paying a man to smuggle her across the Mexican border.
"You have to be careful 'cause they will deport you. Be careful," Henderson told the housekeeper in a conversation Sept. 9, 2008, that was recorded on the wire. "Wow, wow, if you leave they won't let you back … you can't leave, don't leave … 'cause once you leave you will never be back."
After the conversation that day in her Salem home, Henderson increased the woman's pay from $75 to $80, according to the affidavit. The housekeeper, whose name was not included in the affidavit, agreed to wear a wire after being approached by a special agent with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Re: New England Border Patrol Chief Charge With Hiring Illeg
The good news is that hopefully the replacement will go over-board the other way. Deporting them left and right!

Perhaps ICE should start offering legal work visas for any illegal that is willing to wear a wire and get their employer busted.
Hopefully this Border Patrol Chief will spend ever minute of this 10 years on prison sentence and have to give up $250,000 too.Certified Member

Corruption abounds in all levels of government. It is a shame that she is not eligible for deportation if convicted and after serving a sentence?

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

BOSTON | A federal official who oversees immigration enforcement in three New England states was charged Friday with hiring three illegal immigrants to clean her Salem, Mass., home.
The authorities said the official, Lorraine Henderson, the Boston area port director for the Department of Homeland Security, counseled her housekeeper on how to evade deportation. The housekeeper was cooperating with federal officials and wearing a recording device.
"You have to be careful 'cause they will deport you," Henderson told the woman, who is from Brazil, after she asked about filing immigration papers for her new baby, the federal complaint states.
Henderson is in charge of all international points of entry, including airports and shipping terminals, in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and she supervises more than 200 Customs and Border Protection agency employees. She was also responsible for preventing illegal immigrants from entering the country and processing all foreign citizens at ports. She was appointed in 2003.
According to a biography from the Northeast Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition, where Henderson lectured on cargo security, she has worked in Customs since 1975.
Henderson surrendered her badge Friday morning, and was arraigned in the afternoon in federal court and released on $25,000 bail. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The authorities said Henderson continued to employ the housekeeper despite knowing she was in the country illegally. They contend that Henderson recommended the housekeeper to another Customs agent in 2004. In November 2005, prompted by a directive not to hire illegal immigrants, the agent asked the housekeeper about her immigration status.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

All her assets should be sold to pay her debt to American society. She is a traitor and has committed treason - trying to damage America with her gain or another country's gain.
