Comment worth reading after the huff article:
"But he didn't want to be a nobody. He was convinced his lack of papers would doom his chances of success after college."
Who convinced him of this? The answer is harsh, but true. He was convinced by people who taught him that being an engineer in Mexico was not an option. Instead he must waste his time and talent pursuing the mirage of amnesty, despite overwhelmiÂ*ng evidence that the vast majority of Americans strongly oppose this. How long do you think it took for a bright child to see the writing on the wall? That all the speeches and parades and flag-wavinÂ*g was just preaching to the choir, not changing the opinions of those opposed.
How ironic that parents who brought their children into the U.S. for a better life, instead condemn them to second class status, by insisting their only option is to remain as illegal immigrantsÂ*. How can children raised in America believe that a corrupt and oppressive Mexican government can never be changed? That's not what they learned in American history. Who is teaching it to them?
Release your children as soldiers in this futile war. Encourage these bright, well-educaÂ*ted, motivated children to return to Mexico, and make it better. Their parents moved to a different country. They can do the same, and use their fine educations to build a better life for themselves and their families in Mexico.

The suicide race card has been played.

DREAM Act, immigration not mentioned in teen's suicide notes
DREAM Act, immigration not mentioned in teen's suicide notes

MISSION — The recent suicide of an illegal immigrant fanned the flames of a controversial measure to legalize certain students who were sneaked into the country as children, prompting, among other things, a Friday morning ceremony in Los Angeles and a proclamation on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.
But in the 11 pages of suicide notes that Hidalgo County investigators released to the family of Joaquin Luna on Friday, there is not a single mention of immigration or of the failed Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, as was mistakenly reported by various news outlets.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said he could not release the notes, which an investigator found in a Bible, until the investigation confirmed that the case was indeed a suicide.
[b]“What really bothers me is that there's somebody out there attempting to exploit this poor young man's decision to commit suicide and try to politicize it with failure of the DREAM Act and immigration issues,â€NO AMNESTY

Rep. Ruben Hinojosa (D-TX) spoke to his House colleagues this morning about the tragic suicide of Joaquin Luna, an 18-year-old undocumented immigrant in Texas who committed suicide because his immigration status left him trapped and out of options. His brother Diyer Mendoza said Luna had wanted to be an engineer but didn’t think he could get into college or even get a job as an undocumented immigrant without the DREAM Act.
