New Jersey AG has obtained evidence of possible crimes at Trump's golf club — and Mueller, FBI are involved in probe

New Jersey prosecutors have collected evidence that supervisors at President Trump’s Garden State golf club may have committed federal immigration crimes — and the FBI as well as special counsel Robert Mueller have played part in the inquiry, the Daily News has learned.

Anibal Romero, a Newark attorney who represents several undocumented immigrants who used to work at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, said Friday he recently met with investigators from the state attorney general’s office and handed over fraudulent green cards and Social Security numbers that management at the club allegedly procured and gave his clients, Victorina Morales and Sandra Diaz.

Before he met with the state prosecutors, Romero said he reached out to Mueller’s office because, while he wanted to contact federal authorities, he was concerned about looping in the Justice Department, which was headed by Jeff Sessions at the time.

“I wasn’t sure, one, if they’d take me seriously and, two, if this could backfire on my clients,” Romero told The News, referencing the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration agenda.

Mueller’s office, which is separately investigating Trump’s campaign for possible collusion with Russians during the 2016 election, made contact and informed Romero the matter was not within their jurisdiction.

A few weeks later, an FBI agent in New Jersey called Romero.

“He said to me that he had received a referral from Robert Mueller’s office and that he already knew the specifics and that he wanted to meet with me in person,” Romero said.

Romero then met with two agents at a federal office in Branchburg, N.J., and outlined the same evidence he had already given the AG prosecutors. The agents said they would “coordinate” with the AG’s office, according to Romero.

Romero said he’s stayed in touch with the FBI and the attorney general’s office but declined to confirm whether either of the agencies have formally opened investigations.

“I’m confident that federal and state authorities will conduct a complete and thorough investigation,” Romero said.

An FBI spokesman declined to comment and so did Mueller’s office.
Sharon Lauchaire, a spokeswoman for New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, said her office has a policy “to neither confirm nor deny investigations.”

A White House spokeswoman did not respond to emailed questions.

Morales, a Guatemalan national who is still employed at the club but has stopped going to work, and Diaz, a Costa Rican national who used to work there and has since obtained legal status, are among at least five undocumented housekeepers at the club who allege they were set up with fraudulent documents and subjected to abuse and racial harassment.

Morales and Diaz first came forward with their allegations in interviews with The New York Times earlier this month.

Both women allege management at the Trump club knew they were undocumented and set them up with fake work documents.

In Morales’ case, Romero said a supervisor compiled all of her information and then took her photo in the laundry room of the club.

A few days later, the boss — who’s not being named by The News — told Morales he had received her fake documents and said he would hold on to them.

“This was a practice and pattern,” Romero said. “My clients felt like they were trapped and they felt like the fake documents could be used against them.”

A spokeswoman for the Trump Organization did not return multiple requests for comment.

Romero said Morales understands her coming forward could result in legal repercussions but says she is motivated to speak out because of the blatant hypocrisy in Trump employing undocumented immigrants at his golf club while at the same time demonizing them from his Oval Office pulpit.

Harry Sandick, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said the undocumented workers may have committed immigration fraud by knowingly using fake documents — a federal offense that could result in prison time, hefty fines and deportation.

Sandick also said the supervisor who allegedly procured the fake documents — as well as anyone else involved in the process — could be charged with the same crime. Considering the high-profile nature of the case, Sandick said prosecutors may try to send a message by indicting the supervisor.

“Immigration crimes are hard to prosecute so the government may see something like this as a possible deterrent case,” Sandick said. “To show that even someone who works at the President’s golf club is under the microscope is very impressive and tells you that anyone can be charged.”

Romero said his clients have not been given any assurances but said charging them with any crimes would be missing the point.

“They are the victims here,” Romero said. “Any attempt at charging them would ignore the real problem.”

Since she considers herself a crime victim, I'm surprised she hasn't asked for a U Visa.

The story is changing. She first said she got the documents herself, and borrowed the $145 needed for the documents from someone at the golf club. Now she's saying they took her picture, they got them and held them. If someone working at the golf club is actually doing this, then of course they need to be stopped and prosecuted. What possible motive would someone at the golf club have for this? Their pay scale is market or in her own words above market, higher than what she was earning at another hotel which is why she applied there, so they aren't saving any money.

Story changing again. Her attorney says the woman has the documents, not the golf club, and she turned them over to the attorney, who gave them to the FBI apparently. So obviously, the golf club did NOT "hold" the documents. This is fizzle story by illegal aliens con artists who can't keep their stories straight.

FBI Collected Fake Green Cards Allegedly Supplied By Trump Golf Club Managers: Report

Attorney for immigrants also said he turned over fraudulent Social Security numbers provided by managers at the Trump National Golf Club.

    By Mary Papenfuss

The FBI and New Jersey investigators have collected employment documents and information allegedly provided to immigrants not authorized to work by supervisors at President Donald Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, The Washington Post reported Saturday.

Newark attorney Anibal Romero told the newspaper that he turned over fake permanent resident green cards and fraudulent Social Security numbers that he said were given to one of his clients by managers at the Trump National Golf Club. He also handed over pay stubs given to another client, Romero said.

Romero, who represents five immigrants he says were undocumented when they worked for Trump’s New Jersey club, said he met with two FBI agents and investigators from the New Jersey state attorney general’s office last month. The federal agents said they were going to “coordinate” with the state investigators, Romero said.

The New York Daily News reported Saturday that Romero turned over documents to state officials — but only discussed them with the FBI agents.

“I’m confident that federal and state authorities will conduct a complete and thorough investigation,” Romero told the News.

Both papers reported that Romero said one of the FBI agents told him on the phone that the agent had “received a referral” from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office about the attorney and the information he had.

Romero had earlier reached out to Mueller’s office but was told that the situation was outside of its jurisdiction, according to the News.

The policy of the state attorney’s office is not to confirm or deny the existence of an ongoing investigation. The FBI declined to comment.

Romero told the News and the North Jersey Record earlier this month that the attorney general’s office had also contacted him about reports by his clients of racially charged harassment and threats that the women were allegedly subjected to by their supervisors.

One of Romero’s clients, 45-year-old Guatemalan native Victorina Morales, went public in a New York Times interview early this month about her three years working at Trump’s New Jersey resort as an undocumented immigrant who cleaned Trump’s living quarters. Romero said Morales was provided with fake green cards and Social Security numbers by resort managers when she was working there illegally.

Morales told the Post on Saturday that she had come forward in part to highlight the “hypocrisy” of a president who rails against undocumented immigrants while they work at his club.

Morales said she entered the U.S. illegally in 1999 and began working at the Trump National Golf Club in 2013. She was told at the club that her working status “didn’t matter,” she recalled.

The Trump Organization said after Morales’ story was published in the Times that the company has “very strict hiring practices.”

Hey, you just posted a story that was published today, so obviously the story hasn't fizzled out.

As for her documents. If I remember correctly there were two sets of documents. The fake ones she originally got hired with and the second set that was later issued by Trump's golf club.

You don't remember correctly. She claims she borrowed $145 from someone at the golf club which she used to pay someone else to get her fake documents. Her lawyer tells a different story than she does. It doesn't matter. It fizzled.

Also, as I said, if someone at the golf club is taking photos and manufacturing fraudulent documents for illegal aliens, then they need to be stopped and prosecuted.

President Donald Trump's New Jersey golf club may have committed federal immigration crimes by handing out fake green cards and social security numbers to workers, according to new evidence collected by prosecutors.

The New Jersey Attorney General's office is investigating the allegations and special counsel Robert Mueller and the FBI are a part of the probe as well.

Attorney Anibal Romero, who represents several undocumented immigrants who used to work at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, says he handed over the fraudulent green cards and social security numbers that the club gave to two of his clients, 45-year-old Victorina Morales and 46-year-old Sandra Diaz, according to the New York Daily News.

Morales and Diaz first came forward in an interview with the New York Times earlier this month saying that Trump's golf club knew they were undocumented and gave them fake work documents.

They are a part of at least five undocumented housekeepers at the golf club who say they were given fraudulent documents as a part of their employment.

They also claim they were subjected to racial harassment and abuse at the club.

Romero, a Newark attorney, reached out to Mueller's office to contact federal authorities, before meeting with state prosecutors about the golf club's fake documents.

'I wasn't sure, one, if they'd take me seriously and two, if this could backfire on my clients,' he said to The News.

He added he was hesitant to involve the Justice Department which was led by Jeff Sessions at the time.

He reached out to Mueller's office, which is investigating Trump's presidential campaign for collusion with Russia, and they responded saying the case wasn't within their jurisdiction.

Weeks later an FBI agent in New Jersey called Romero.

'He said to me that he had received a referral from Robert Mueller’s office and that he already knew the specifics and that he wanted to meet with me in person,' he said.

He later met with two agents in New Jersey and shared the evidence he gave to attorney general prosecutors.

They then said that they would 'coordinate' with the attorney general's office, the lawyer said.

Romero reached out to special counsel Robert Mueller regarding the fake immigration documents. His counsel as well as the FBI later reached out, however neither have formally opened an investigation into the matter

Romero did not explicitly confirm whether the FBI or the attorney general's office have opened formal investigations.

'I’m confident that federal and state authorities will conduct a complete and thorough investigation,' he said.

Both an FBI spokesman and Mueller's office declined to comment on any investigation.

Diaz is from Costa Rica and used to work at Trump's New Jersey golf club and has since obtained legal status in the U.S.

Morales is a Guatemalan national. She is still employed at the club but has stopped going to work in light of the allegations.

She claims that a supervisor gathered her information and took her picture in the laundry room of the club.

Then a few days later the boss of the golf club told Morales he received her fake documents and he'd keep them.

    +5

Victorina Morales says she's coming forward with the fake green card because she's frustrated with President Donald Trump's hypocrisy where he bashes undocumented immigrants yet employs them at the same time. Trump pictured above at the golf club in 2014

The New York Times ran Morales' fake Social Security number through public records and found no match, which they described is 'often an indication that the number is not valid'.

Romero says that the manager's tactic of giving out fake documents and holding onto them deliberately entrapped the workers.

'This was a practice and pattern. My clients felt like they were trapped and they felt like the fake documents could be used against them,' he said.

He added Morales is speaking out, despite the legal troubles it could bring her, because she's frustrated with Trump's anti-undocumented immigrant rhetoric, while he simultaneously employs them at his golf club.

Coming forward is a dangerous move as undocumented workers may have committed immigration fraud by knowingly using fake documents. The offense could land them in jail, or with large fines, or could result in deportation.

The supervisor that procured the documents could also face the same punishment.

'Immigration crimes are hard to prosecute so the government may see something like this as a possible deterrent case. To show that even someone who works at the President’s golf club is under the microscope is very impressive and tells you that anyone can be charged,' Harry Sandick, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said to the News.

But still, Romero hopes that the investigation can unearth a greater problem going on behind Trump's lavish golf club doors.

'They are the victims here. Any attempt at charging them would ignore the real problem,' he said.

    December 29 at 7:37 PM
Federal and state investigators are scrutinizing the employment documents of immigrants without legal status who say they worked at President Trump’s golf club in New Jersey, according to their attorney.

Anibal Romero, a Newark attorney who represents five undocumented immigrants who say they worked at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, said in an interview Saturday that he met with investigators from the New Jersey state attorney general’s office and two FBI agents in November, before the workers began to go public with their stories.

Romero said he turned over fake green cards and Social Security numbers that supervisors at the golf club allegedly gave one of his clients, Victorina Morales, a 44-year-old Guatemalan national. He also gave investigators the pay stubs of Sandra Diaz, a 46-year-old Costa Rican native who now has legal status but said she was undocumented when she worked at the club for three years.

The FBI agents told him they would “coordinate” with the New Jersey state attorney general’s office, Romero said.

The materials collected by law enforcement agencies, first reported by the New York Daily News, indicate that investigators may be launching a probe into the hiring practices of the president’s golf club.

A spokeswoman for New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said the office’s policy is “to neither confirm nor deny investigations.” The FBI declined to comment.

Trump Organization officials did not respond to requests for comment.

Morales and Diaz first went public in interviews with the New York Times earlier this month. Morales said she had worked at the Bedminster club for the last five years — even making Trump’s bed and ironing the president’s clothes at times. She told the Times that managers at the club had taken steps to help her evade detection as an undocumented worker.

[Housekeeper who worked illegally at Trump golf resort alleges mistreatment]

“The important point that I think has been left out is that Americans think these hard-working women get these jobs on their own — that’s not what happened,” Romero said. “People employed by the golf club recruited her and made her the phony documents.”

In an interview Saturday, Morales said decided to come forward in part to highlight Trump’s “hypocrisy.”

As president, Trump has pushed hard-line immigration policies and has insisted on $5 billion in funding for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, which has caused a partial shutdown of the federal government. He has sought to make it harder for migrants to obtain asylum and backed a policy that has led to the detention of immigrant children separated from their parents.

Trump Organization officials have declined to comment on the specific allegations about Bedminster’s hiring practices. But spokeswoman Amanda Miller, responding to questions about the case earlier this month, said in a statement: “We have tens of thousands of employees across our properties and have very strict hiring practices. If any employee submitted false documentation in an attempt to circumvent the law, they will be terminated immediately.”

Romero said he first contacted the office of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III in late October seeking guidance on the workers’ allegations. Several weeks later, he received a call from the FBI, Romero said.

“The agent told me that he had received a referral from Robert Mueller’s office and that he had been briefed on the case and he wanted to meet with me in person,” Romero said.

A spokesman for Mueller declined to comment.

Morales said she left Guatemala, where she worked as a corn farmer, and entered the United States illegally in 1999. She said she started working at the Bedminster club in 2013.

During her interview at the club, Morales said she was told that “her status didn’t matter.”

Morales said she decided to come forward because she was receiving abusive comments from a supervisor, who she said called her stupid and pushed her against a wall. The supervisor said because she wasn’t documented and worked for the president, she couldn’t do anything about it, Morales said.

“I was humiliated. I just wanted to come of the shadows,” she said. “I was trapped and threatened with deportation if I spoke out against my boss, who was so abusive. No one should be treated this way in the United States of America.”

Morales was also upset by Trump’s comments about Latin American immigrants being criminals. She said the president was “demanding, but sometimes tipped with a $50 or $100 bill.” She was making $10 an hour.

She is still paid by the golf club but stopped going to work after her story was made public, her attorney said.

Investigate the Managers who hired these identity thieves. They knew exactly what they were all doing. Trump does not personally work in Human Resources or interview or hire every person who works at his businesses.

    Investigate this Manager.

No amnesty for identity thieves who ARE illegal aliens.

Investigate Pelosi's vineyards and the rest of them too...all their employees.
