Authorities: New Orleans area woman dead; man who lived with her and his 3 children missing

    Published July 13, 2014Associated Press

METAIRIE, La. – Authorities say a suburban New Orleans woman has been found bludgeoned to death in her bathtub and the man she lived with and his three children are missing.

Sheriff's spokesman John Fortunato in Louisiana's Jefferson Parish says deputies have a warrant seeking the arrest of 43-year-old Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas on a second-degree murder charge. He says Monterroso-Navas is from Honduras and may also use the name Wilson Rigoberto Mina.

The 25-year-old woman's name is being withheld until her family is notified.

State police issued a missing children alert for a 12-year-old girl and boys aged 2 and 4.

The sheriff's office says two other boys in the blended household alerted neighbors Sunday. Sheriff Newell Normand says deputies found the woman unconscious with head wounds and she died in her apartment.

METAIRIE, La. — A man wanted in death of his girlfriend found bludgeoned to death in her bathtub has been arrested in Texas and his three biological children he fled with have been found safe.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, 43-year-old Pedro Alberto Monterosso-Navas, also known as Wilson Rigoberto Mena, was arrested late Sunday in a trailer park in Katy, Texas.

All three of his children were with him at the time of his arrest, and are reportedly fine and are now in the custody of Texas authorities.

Deputies began looking for Monterroso-Navas after authorities responding to a medical call at 3:35 a.m. Sunday found a woman unconscious in a bathtub. Two of the couple's children, a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old, had gone to a neighbor's house to seek help, saying something was wrong with their mother.

STORY: Man sought after girlfriend killed, 3 children missing

Sheriff Newell Normand says deputies found the woman unconscious with head wounds and she died in her apartment.

Normand said Monterroso-Navas fled with his three biological children, including his daughter, 14-year-old Jessica Nicolle Monterroso, and two sons, 4-year-old Yojan Manuel Monterroso-Flores and 2-year-old Jafet Abigaitl Monterroso-Monroy.

Investigators were told of a phone conversation that took place early Monday between Monterosso-Navas' child and a female friend who was staying in Katy, Texas.

The mother of that child called the JPSO 911 Center, which ultimately led to Monterroso-Navas' arrest.

Released Alien from Border Crisis Arrested for Alleged Murder, Kidnapping in Texas

by Brandon Darby 16 Jul 2014, 10:23 AM PDT
    breitbart

LUBBOCK, Texas—An illegal immigrant who was released by U.S. authorities with a Notice to Appear has been arrested for the alleged murder of a woman and kidnapping of children on U.S. soil. The alleged crimes occurred after the man was released.

The man, Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas, entered the U.S. illegally with children and turned himself in to U.S. Border Patrol agents. He was processed and released, as are all illegal immigrants who come as unaccompanied minors or incomplete family units from Central America. The alien is from Honduras.

The arrest was first reported by the Associated Press (AP), but Breitbart Texas has exclusively confirmed that the man was part of the Obama Administration’s catch and release policy for family groups from Central America.

A U.S. Border Patrol source who spoke with Breitbart Texas on the condition of anonymity provided Breitbart Texas with the alien registration number for the man, and the event number for the man’s apprehension. He was processed in the McAllen station of the U.S. Border Patrol. The alien’s registration number is 202027386. The event number for his apprehension is MCS14061487. The “MCS” designates the McAllen station, the “1406” designates that the man was apprehended in June of 2014. A separate Border Patrol source confirmed that the man was apprehended on June 26, 2014 with two children he claimed were his own. He told U.S. authorities he had family in Metairie, Louisiana.

The AP identified the illegal alien as a “suburban New Orleans man” who faces a second-degree murder charge after his girlfriend was found bludgeoned to death in a bathtub in Louisiana. The man was arrested in a Katy, Texas trailer park with three children. It is unclear if the are his or if they are the same children he used to get U.S. authorities to release him with a Notice to Appear.

The AP did not inform their readers that the man was an illegal alien.

Detective: Man may have killed others in Honduras

    Associated Press 8 p.m. CDT August 10, 2014

GRETNA, La. – A man accused of bludgeoning his girlfriend to death in Metairie has been described in court by a detective as a violent man who may have killed three police officers and a neighbor in Honduras while working as a human smuggler.

Detective Rhonda Goff testified Friday in the first Jefferson Parish court appearance for 43-year-old Pedro Monterroso, The New Orleans Advocate (http://bit.ly/1plp5mt) reported.

Commissioner Patricia Joye found probable cause to keep Monterroso jailed on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Heidi Monroy on July 13. His bond has been set at $1 million.

Goff said Monterroso told her that he hit Monroy "out of self-defense and anger" after she hit him with a steel bar.

Public defender Richard Tompson said in an email Sunday to The Associated Press that his office does not comment about pending cases.

Monterroso showed no emotion during the hearing. He listened as the proceedings were translated to him and occasionally whispered with his court-appointed public defender.

Goff testified that Monroy's sister, being held in an immigration detention center in Texas, told her she'd been in a relationship with Monterroso and he beat her. "With both of the sisters, he used to beat them on the legs," Goff said. "When Heidi came to the country, her legs were covered in bruises."

A brother of Monroy's in New York also described her relationship with Monterroso as violent, Goff said.

Goff said the sister also told her about the alleged killings in Honduras, Goff said. Goff said Monroy's sister also claimed Monterroso was a "coyote," slang for smugglers who charge money to help immigrants enter the United States without legal permission.

Monterroso and Monroy had recently crossed the border into the United States illegally and had been detained by immigration officials before being released and ordered to report back later.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman have said that Border Patrol agents took Monterroso and two children into custody June 26 in the Rio Grande Valley, and had arrested Monroy and three children in the same area May 11.

Goff said Monroy's sister told her that she was the mother of two of the children.

She said Monterroso had learned that Monroy was having an affair with a clerk at a nearby food store, and sent the man text messages telling him to leave Monroy alone. Monterroso also told Goff that Monroy had been drinking with two male neighbors the night she died, and he became angry when he caught her with a bag of cocaine, the detective testified.

Investigators did not find any illegal drugs in the apartment, Goff said.
