    Richardson: Border Fence is Anti-Immigrant

Gov. Bill Richardson, who won plaudits this week from foes of illegal immigration after he declared a state of emergency along New Mexico's southern border, said Sunday that plans to construct a border fence are anti-immigrant.

"A fence at the border is not going to work because, first of all, they're easily porous, and that sends a message that America is a nation that is not valuing immigrants," Richardson told ABC's "This Week."

    Story Continues Below

The New Mexico Democrat said he favors beefing up the Border Patrol instead, explaining: "You [add] border agents - 10,000 of them. Couple them with new technologies, like some of these [unmanned] vehicles and lasers and detection equipment."
Republicans, on the other hand, have praised the border fence provisions included in the Real ID Act of 2005, which funds the completion of a multi-layered fence along the California-Mexico border.

"One of the things the Real ID Act does is to build a double fence where there will be a path that the Border Patrol can run cars and SUVs on, between 40 and 50 miles an hour, to catch illegal aliens who jump over the first fence before they get to the second fence," Rep. James Sensenbrenner explained in March.

"West of [San Diego], that kind of a fence has worked, and it stopped the 10 murders a year that have occurred on the old segment of the border, and 300 drug runs in trucks per month have been stopped by that fence."

"We need to complete the fence," he urged.

What is this? First the state of emergency and now the fence would be anti-immigrant? No Bill, you cannnot have it both ways. You get on Lou Dobbs and cry about the drugs, and the cattle being killed. I say build the fence so you can staddle it, you MORON. Where does anyone really stand on this? I guess the governor of Arizona will come out with an equally moronic statement now as well. Can someone make sense of this for me? I am a fairly intelligent man but this has me stumped. I seriously do not believe what I am seeing in this immigration battle. I cannot remember a more stupid time in this nation and I have been around for a while. Is everyone on the take?

What an idiotic moronic statement and about-face!

No, moron, the fence sends a message to the hordes who refuse to come here legally.

We've really been left with no other choice.

Either on the take, liberal, politically correct or wishy-washy. Take your pick.

Kind of sounds like the waffling Aaahnold did out in Mexifornia after he got criticized for taking somewhat of a stand on illegal immigration.

Guess Richardson found the heat in the kitchen just too hard to take and now he's backpedaling. Coward!

Fixed his statement of what he really meant.

It didn't take long for Richardson to show his true colors. I guess his interpretation of taking care of a border emergency is to have open porous borders so it's easier to get across.

My first reaction to Richardson declaring a SOE was absolute elation! A notable illegal immigration softy was FINALLY acknowledging reality. What a coup!

The moment Arizona's Janet Napolitano, another notable illegal immigration softy, followed Richardsons lead by also delaring a SOE, something began to stink.

Gee--could it be the incredible mixed message these political hacks are giving out?

Perhaps an election is coming up. His statement is Anti-American and Anti-intelligent. Can someone get kicked out of office for being stupid?

Sixx, I don't think he wants it both ways. California House Speaker, Illegal Activist and Mexico's northern most politican Fabian Nunez said on the radio, he was in favor of the state of emergency because "We can finally get something done to legalize the people here". WOW, loose lips sink ships! I heard this quote myself, but I can't find it in print anywhere. I believe they are going to use the state of emergency issue to ramrod the most favorable immigration bill (amnesty) through BEFORE our opposition can build enough head of steam to derail it. They know the opposition is building and they WILL try to head us off at the pass and stuff what we don't want up our jumbos. Anyone have any suggestions how to stop it?

As a ten year union president I learned from experience negotiating when the opposition all of a sudden agrees with you, smiles and holds out their hand to shake, make sure you can see the other hand. If it's behind their back, rest assured they're holding a bat with the intention for you to see stars!

We don't need a fence we need two walls and a moat with sharks that have lasers on their heads swimming in it.

    :P
