Immigration activists to protest against CNN's Dobbs

Immigration activists to protest against CNN's Dobbs

SARASOTA --New College immigration activists plan to protest a Saturday appearance by CNN's Lou Dobbs at the city's reading festival.

Dobbs, in town to promote his new book, has become an outspoken voice in the national immigration debate.

Activists say his reporting is biased and incorrect when it comes to illegal immigrants living in the United States.

"Lou Dobbs has been one of the instrumental factors in the propagation of hate and lies against immigrants," said Jose Manuel Godinez Samperio, an organizer and New College student. "We don't want him in the community."

The protest will act as a way to speak with residents about the controversial issue, to "get them more involved and educated on what's going on."

"He's not welcome in our community because his reporting pretty much boils down to hate speech," said Adam Roca, a New College alum.

Protestors would be holding signs and passing out information at 1:30 p.m. on Pineapple Avenue in downtown Sarasota.

Dobbs was set to kick off the festival at 2 p.m., as part of a book tour promoting "Independents Day," according to Sarasota News & Books.

On Spanish radio stations and in Spanish-language newspapers, the rally has been advertised in hopes of putting "their side of the story," out into the public, Samperio said.

Dobbs served as a loud opponent of immigration reform and what to do with the illegal immigrant population across the country, including, Samperio and Roca said, his comments linking the rise in illegal immigrants in the United States to an increased number of leprosy cases.

They say they want to educate the public.

"The things he says are pretty representative of the anti-immigration movement," Samperio said. "The law isn't that you have to be scared all the time and people have to oppress you."

A call to CNN for comment was not returned Monday.

Where are these people living under a rock? The Americans already live with the cost of their side of the story. As Lou would say:

"Americans have had a belly full of this nonsense". I can hear him laughing at these "idiots" already.

My parents live in Manatee County, the county right next to Sarasota. I have urged them to show up with their signs supporting Lou AND his views on Illegals. I know for sure my Mom will be there and I'm hoping she can get some more of her less vocal Senior Citizens there.

I don't know why this reminds me so much of the CSI: Las Vegas two-parter I saw on Spike TV last night.

Several police officers were involved in a huge shootout with criminal Latinos, and a high school age Latino boy was accidentally shot and put in a coma. The local Latino community immediately rose up and accused the police of shooting the poor boy, and the boy's father held multiple violence-encouraging press conferences and eventually threatened a lawsuit against every cop in the city if they didn't give him an immediate answer about his son. Here, the car chase and shootout went over several blocks, so there was a lot of ground for everyone to cover for evidence. The CSI's were working overtime, not sleeping, to find the truth as to who shot the boy. The Dad was being super impatient for his "I want answers, NOW!" attitude.

Finally, once the investigation was completed, Grissom held a "community meeting" in a church to go over the evidence with the boy's family and his community. The Latinos were spitting mad and were saying things such as "you're the police! you're NOT on our side!" and "how can we possibly trust you or your evidence!" Grissom had to repeatedly tell them in a calm voice that he was first and foremost a scientist, and that evidence can only tell the truth, and has no prejudices against race, gender, religion, etc. Once the evidence showed the Latino criminal cruelly shot the boy to steal his bike for a getaway, the boy's parents and the community became so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Gee, I wonder why? Could they have been wrong in blaming the cops right away?

Sorry, a little off topic, but the Lou Dobbs protestors kind of remind me of the angry Latino protestors in this episode of CSI, who were so angry that they were blinded to any truth but that of their prejudices against the police. (And this can happen to any racial group, not just Latinos. We all have our prejudices.)

The biggest purveyors of 'hate speech' are not people like Lou Dobbs but rather groups like La Raza that preach 'reconquista' of the USA.
[b] If we do not insist on Voter ID, how can we stop illegals from voting?

We are working on putting together a counter protest. We are putting the word out to people in Fort Myers to get some folks to stand the line. It could get fun.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!
