New York More Immigration Friendly Than Ariz.: New Poll
New York more immigration friendly than Arizona, says new poll

Pace for news
People protest the Arizona immigration laws across from Citi Field. A survey found that New Yorkers overall had a negative view of Arizona's illegal immigration law.
New Yorkers oppose Arizona's new immigration law by a nearly 2-1 margin, although whites in the city were slightly in favor of the controversial plan, a new Daily News/Marist Poll survey found.
While 78% of blacks and 70% of Latinos are against the law, the percentage among whites was 49-47 in favor of the law, the survey reported.
New York immigration rights activists were not surprised by the overall negativity toward the legislation.
"New Yorkers know what this is about," said Chung-Wha Hong, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition. "They get it. They know that hyping up the phobia is not the answer."
Oddly enough, the survey also found that Latinos - more than either blacks or whites - were more likely to notify authorities if they knew someone was here illegally.
Twenty percent of Latinos said they would call the cops, compared with 16% of whites and 15% of blacks.
The only group more likely to drop a dime: New York Republicans. Twenty-six percent of local GOPers said they would report an illegal. Just 15% of Democrats felt the same way.
The Arizona law, which is being challenged in court, would require cops to determine the immigration status of anyone they detain if there is a "reasonable suspicion" the person is in the country illegally.
Critics believe it legalizes racial profiling, and a federal judge recently ruled a portion of the law violated the Fourth Amendment.
While illegal immigrants remain a hot-button issue in Arizona, a majority of New Yorkers don't consider it a huge local problem.
Twenty-three percent felt it was no problem at all, while another 42% considered it a minor problem. Thirty-five percent called it a "major problem."
There was little variation among races, with 45% of whites, 42% of blacks and 38% of Latinos describing illegal immigration as a minor concern.
Latinos and Bronx residents were most numerous in deeming the issue no problem at all. Thirty-three percent of Bronxites and 29% of Latinos felt that way, the poll indicated.
The recent poll of New York City residents has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 perentage points.

I am hoping some states declare NY and CA as totally worthless renegade, corrupt and just ditch them. Give both of those states to Mexico, and let's try to save the rest of America. You have ruthless scumbags in charge of CA. and NY. that don't even deserve a moment of our thoughts. Neither of those two states give anything to the USA, only steal from the Federal Budget (which is you and me).
F em... I'll concede and give CA. and NY to Mexico. And if Arizona re-elects John Insane.... let Mexico have that state as well.
Just draw the battle lines... Let the cesspools, formerly known as states go.. If they want to live within the confines of the Mexican drug cartels, let them do so; but not at American taxpayer expense.
Goodbye Bloomberg... Put your body where your big mouth is; and sit at the dinner table in Mexico; not the US.
