A new YouGov poll released this week may have just pinpointed the key to Donald Trump’s baffling success.

The GOP frontrunner has managed to grow his lead in spite of a clearcut lack of political correctness, diverging with his party on many key issues, and serving as a thorn in the side to many establishment candidates as well as mainstream media personalities.

He speaks off the cuff, doesn’t apologize, and promises to “Make America Great Again.” But it’s not any of these points that seem to have captivated the American public.

No, the YouGov poll indicates that Trump’s ongoing popularity could be due to one key issue: illegal immigration. According to the polling group, an astounding 92 percent of Americans believe that illegal immigration is a problem, with around 75 percent of those respondents calling it a “serious” issue.

With results like that, it’s not quite so surprising that a candidate that supports building a wall along the southern border of the United States and deporting all undocumented immigrants would stay afloat even as a mountain of negative press and pieces like this one from the Washington Post permeate following the second GOP debate.

But before getting too carried away, it’s also important to note from the YouGov poll that around 52 percent of the 1,000 respondents also backed a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

That is not something Trump favors, though he has proposed a plan for expediting “the good ones” back into the United States at the border.

Along with this number, 61 percent of Americans don’t believe that it’s possible to deport the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants living and working in the U.S.

And while Donald Trump can propose that’s what he would do all day long, it won’t necessarily translate to votes if he can’t get the 75 percent to buy in to its plausibility.

Even so, other polls have shown that “the Donald” continues to do well, even after contentious debates like the CNN-hosted event on Sept. 16, in which an array of Republican candidates ganged up on his plans and his lack of policy specifics.

Before announcing his run for the Presidency, I had never given Donald Trump a second thought. I have not seen one single episode of The Apprentice. I never read articles or watched shows that focused on the man.

Trump became a name in my household the second I learned of his stand against illegals. I thought of the 9/11 connection he must have as a New Yorker. Later, hearing him speak so sincerely about Kate and Mr. Shaw's son was proof for me of his compassion. Then I heard him use the word "deportation". That was it, I have been hooked ever since. Reading his immigration plan on his website only further cemented my support.

Decades of bad policies and empty promises have brought this nation to its knees. But we're not face down yet! The people are fed up with the way things have progressed over time. They are so tired of a broken system where we can no longer see a difference between the Republicans and Democrats. Listening to other candidates echos the same ole business as usual.

I'm frustrated. How about you? If suddenly I had Trump's money tomorrow, I think I'd be up there saying and doing the same as he is right now. Can you see yourself watching the news one evening and deciding, "hey, someone needs to do something. I have the resources and personality to do it. It would be irresponsible of me not to try. Even if I don't win, maybe I can get the people talking and the candidates listening. I'll do it!"

Trump strikes me as one who will be strong and try his best to fulfill the wishes of the silent majority. He strikes me as someone who won't be influenced by any other than the majority. Confronting red tape may be challenging, but I truly think he won't back down. He'll fight until he's lost and then get back up and try again. Do you not see this persistence in him? Catering to special interest groups, whether they be political or corporate, does not seem to be his style. The proof is in his inability to be politically incorrect. How admirable. How refreshing.

That's me exactly! I never read his book, never watched his shows, but I did watch him on some interviews many years ago during the 80's, and I was so impressed with him, because he was talking about politics and the country, so I've always tried to catch his interviews since then, and he slams it in every interview, with the same positions he has today on trade and immigration. He saw this coming and has been harping to stop it for 35 years. His other accomplishments just let me know that he's careful with money, has high standards of achievement, is a great manager, excellent with deals and contracts, and not afraid of tough projects, because to my knowledge, all of his projects have not only been hugely successful, they were extremely difficult ones.

I guess we'll eventually see just how many decide to put their vote where the problem is.

So, if Trump or any other candidate deports aliens according to law, what have we gained without cleaning hose of political parties? While the president is deporting Congress will be authorizing larger legal immigrant numbers!! Then overriding presidential vetoes !! I am so disappointed that there is no organized effort to cleanse politics of corruption. Without doing so, they are keeping us busy fighting just to fight again. They have been doing that for decades, both major parties! It seems that they recognize us only as fools! Only we can prove them wrong!

Trump not only wants to stop illegal immigration and deport illegal aliens, he wants to stop and then reduce the amount of legal immigration.

Walker at 0% in new national poll

Madison (WKOW) -- A new national poll shows Governor Scott Walker polling at 0 percent in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

The CNN/ORC poll released Sunday shows there were five candidates who received less than one percent of support from likely Republican voters. Walker was among them, joined by former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and former New York Governor George Pataki. Less than one percent equates to zero percent, statistically.

The results show Donald Trump is still the front-runner with 24 percent, but has lost ground from earlier in the month. However Carly Fiorina jumped to second place with 15 percent.

Another category Walker falters in is recognition. Walker has the second-worst polling numbers in name recognition. The poll shows 25 percent of likely Republican voters say they've never heard of him. All other candidates except for Ohio governor John Kasich were more recognizable to likely Republicans.

The poll began the day after the most recent Republican debate on CNN.

Donald Trump is probably our last chance to peacefully change the direction of this country. If 61% of Americans do not think that it is possible to deport 11 (really 25 or 30 million) illegal foreigner squatters it just shows us that we have a lot of educating to do. Everybody please look up "Operation Wetback" Eisenhower deportation of illegal aliens in 1954.

It is Trump in 2016 or pray to God there is not violence in the streets.

Yeah, at this point, I don't know why any Republican who wants to stop illegal immigration, deport illegal aliens and stop/reduce legal immigration as well as fix our free trade treason nightmare would want to knock Trump. I am failing to transmit my point, tell me how to send it. Without a supporting cast in Congress. probably at least equal to a quarter or a third of Congress, Congress is dnot going to support any president. Congress is the body that sets legal immigration limits or quotas. While Trump is deporting, they can be legalizing more immigrants. If they have the power of overriding vetoes, they can even legalize all the aliens already here!

We must eliminate over time 90% of Congress to win and put this to bed! By fighting it only in the Presidential, many Congressmen will escape having to confront this. Especially those who run unopposed.

No President is obligated to process and admit the number of visas and green cards approved by Congress, those numbers passed by Congress are limits, not requirements. A President has the legal authority to prohibit and prevent the entry function as head of the Executive Branch.
