Nicolas Sarkozy has vowed to stop migration in is French presidency bid
The French politician promised to “preserve” all that was French, with stemming the flow of migrants to France his top priority.
He announced his intention to run in next year’s presidential election via a book ‘Tout pour La France’ - i.e. ‘Everything for France.’ in which he outlines the pillars of his campaign.
Sarkozy has made it clear that, as president, he would fight to preserve French identity, a controversial battle which would have both “political and cultural” implications.
France must take a more hardline approach to immigration, he warned.
The government must stop foreigners from arriving “en masse” and save the country from “communitarianism” he wrote.
His tough approach could also have an implication on Britain, with more than 9,000 migrants currently camped out in the Calais Jungle ready to make breaks for the UK on a daily basis.

The growing migrant population is France’s biggest “worry” he said, adding that he would do everything in his power to defend the French “way of life”.
Sarkozy reminded French voters of the number of foreigners their country welcomes each year: 210,000.
This number includes 25,000 asylum-seekers, 20,000 economic migrants, 65,000 foreign students, and 100,000 refugee families.
He warned France no longer has the capacity to take in more migrants and that family reunification should be suspended. Economic immigration, he said, must be stopped.
He also challenged birthright citizenship, by saying that a French passport should not automatically be granted to those born in France.
A child born to foreign parents would acquire French citizenship at the age of 18, but only if he has a clean criminal record and if his parents were legal residents at the time of his birth.
The French government are already facing increased pressure to dismantle the Calais 'Jungle' camp
In addition, migrants would become naturalised French citizens after spending 10, and not five, years in the country.
Sarkozy also believes that migrants should integrate into society and learn to “blend in” more and respect French values.
