Washington, April 8 .- Activists in Washington and neighboring states of Maryland and Virginia will join the demonstrations of May 1 next several cities in United States by an immigration reform.

"We are working together to get out into the streets and send a clear message for a reform that benefits the community," said Gustavo Torres, chair of the Coalition of Immigrants in the National Capital and director of the Casa de Maryland.

"To rebuild our economy, we must reconstruct our immigration system. Assimilation million undocumented immigrants will bring stability to hundreds of communities and make them more competitive and productive," said the activist.

In a press conference, Torres revealed that he hopes the president Barack Obama delivers a speech in May in favor of reform and pointed to the bipartisan efforts in both houses of Congress to debate a bill in September.

Community leader acknowledged that in previous years, a greater lobbying in Congress and emphasized that this time there is a more favorable policy environment and greater efforts with legislators and the White House.

Also, the coalition presented a report to journalists of "non-negotiable principles" for immigration reform, including legalization of the undocumented, a moratorium on the raids, the integration of immigrants and family reunification.

Their position paper proposes the elimination of electronic verification of employment, creation of an "Ombudsman" in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and rates more fair in Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS), among other measures .

The report, endorsed by 33 organizations and developed by the firm Mate Group, was based on focus groups in Maryland, Virginia, Arizona, California and New York in which about 350 immigrants, mostly Latinos and Africans.

The march will begin from May 1 in Malcolm X Park in Northwest Washington, will travel across the 16th Street and ends at the White House.

"President Obama, tell us," said co-chair of the coalition, Jessica Alvarez, who recalled the 2006 mass demonstrations against actions in Congress seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants.

Ricardo Juarez of Mexicans Without Borders group, said that under the Obama administration "nothing has changed" regarding the administration of George W. Bush, because they have been suspended following the raids and cooperation between local police and immigration agents.

The organizers of the march showed that use the popular Internet social networks for greater involvement this May 1, with young people that promote the legalization of undocumented students under the bill "Dream."

Also anticipated that the Summit of the Americas, scheduled from 17 to April 19, several Latin American presidents to Obama repeated his call for the legalization of some 12 million undocumented immigrants in United States. (With information from Notimex / MVC)

They have spent tens of thousands of dollars on and a lot of man hours of work to organize this event. The number of people on our side that are street activists are much lower than on theirs. We do however have many more supporters that and the fact that ours are citizens and voters empowers us. When they average person sees one of their events they get a strong visceral negative reaction. However they do not know what to do to get legislators to respect their position. It takes a relative handful of people to create a counter presence noticeable by the press and if we have signs for ALIPAC and NumbersUSA visible on video there will be more people signing up on our side. They spend the money that brings press while we get the benefit.

This is so sickening it make me want to puke!

How dare these radical invaders tell our government what they should and should not do with threats of "non-negotiable" immigration reform. If ever there was an extremist group of radicals in modern times, this is it.
The Department of Homeland Security should put every one of them on their watch list.

Thanks. I’m sure there is discussion about that between the major enforcement groups. It should be a concerted effort.

To rebuild our economy, we must reconstruct our immigration system
First, it's not your immigration system - it's OURS, American citizens not illegal invaders. Don't even start telling me what Americans MUST do. The only thing we want is for you to go home.

Second, Obama was unaware of the tax day teaparties, even though one of them was right outside his window. Good luck getting his attention. Maybe a few hundred signs in Spanish would help - oh, wait, Obama doesn't speak Spanish. Well, maybe if you wave the Mexican flag.

Too bad its not major LAW enforcement groups...
