U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested rapper 21 Savage early Sunday morning, claiming that he is actually from the United Kingdom and overstayed his visa,

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has learned.

21 Savage, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was taken into custody in a “targeted operation,” ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said.

Abraham-Joseph, 26, has claimed to be from Atlanta and has long been considered a local act. Just last fall, he gave free school supplies to more than 2,500 DeKalb County school students.

His Wikipedia page states that he was born in Atlanta in 1992.

Cox, however, said Abraham-Joseph is an “unlawfully present United Kingdom national” who came to the U.S. on a visa in July 2005. His visa expired a year later, Cox said.

He was also convicted of felony drug charges in 2014 in Fulton County.

Abraham-Joseph has been placed in “removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts,” Cox said.

He performed in Atlanta as recently as Thursday in the Super Bowl Music Fest at State Farm Arena.

He jumped into the rap game with his debut mixtape “The Slaughter Tape” in 2015. His most recent album, “I Am > I Was,” hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

NEW YORK (AP) — Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is cooperating with federal prosecutors after pleading guilty to nine crimes and saying he joined a violent New York City gang and helped others try to kill a rival gang member.

The plea was entered last week by the 22-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Daniel Hernandez.

Information about it was unsealed Friday in Manhattan federal court.

Known almost as much for his tattooed, rainbow-haired look as for his music, 6ix9ine was a social media phenomenon before becoming an ascendant name in hip-hop.

He has 15.5 million followers on Instagram. His album Day69: Graduation Day was among the top-sellers on iTunes following its February release.

6ix9ine had a multiplatinum hit song, "Fefe," with Nicki Minaj, which peaked at No. 3 on the pop charts, and "Stoopid," featuring the incarcerated rapper Bobby Shmurda.

But he also seemed intent on ruining his prospects for runaway, entertainment world success. He publicly identified himself as a member of a street gang. He pleaded guilty in Brooklyn to disorderly conduct in connection with a May traffic stop. In 2015, he was sentenced to probation for appearing in a video in which a 13-year-old girl performed a sex act on another man.

During the plea, 6ix9ine said he joined the Nine Trey Blood Gang in fall 2017 and helped gang members try to kill a rival last March.

"I did this to maintain or increase my own standing in Nine Trey," he told Judge Paul A. Engelmayer. He said he also "knew that another member of Nine Trey had a gun and discharged that gun."

The rapper said he also helped other gang members rob people at gunpoint as part of a pledge by new gang members to commit at least two crimes.

Last June 2, he said, he "paid a person to shoot at a rival member of Nine Trey to scare him." That shooting, he added, occurred in Manhattan.

6ix9ine said he also was paid for participating in the sale of a kilogram of cocaine in 2017.

"I apologize to the court, to anyone who was hurt, to my family, friends and fans for what I have done and who I have let down," 6ix9ine said.

With his deal with prosecutors, 6ix9ine can gain leniency at sentencing from an otherwise mandatory minimum 47 years in prison if he admits to all crimes and testifies truthfully.

Sentencing was set for Jan. 23, 2020.

Attorney Dawn Florio said 6ix9ine's safety was a chief concern.

"In the very beginning of the case when we found out that my client's security was at risk because of threats by his co-defendants, we have done everything to protect himself and his family," she said, adding that those efforts continue.

6ix9ine is being housed in a federal prison, though the location of the institution is undisclosed.

"He has to be separated from the people who threatened him," Florio said.

She said he is receiving mail from fans.

"All his fans love him and Danny loves all his fans.

He loves hearing from his fans," she said. "For security reasons, he's not responding to them at this point."

Rapper Bow Wow arrested in Atlanta for alleged battery

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police say rapper Bow Wow has been arrested following a fight with a woman.

Police couldn't tell who was the primary aggressor, so both were charged with battery.

Officer Jarius Daugherty said in an email that the rapper, whose given name is Shad Moss, was arrested early Saturday.

When police responded to a call in Midtown Atlanta, Leslie Holden told them Bow Wow had assaulted her. Bow Wow told officers Holden assaulted him.



The rapper's attorney Joe Habachy later said in a statement that two witnesses corroborated his client's version of events indicating Holden was "without a doubt the primary aggressor."

Police say both had minor injuries.
Habachy said Bow Wow has been released on a signature bond. It wasn't clear if Holden had an attorney who could comment.

Black Lives Matter Petitions Against Deportation of 21 Savage

The petition is part of a larger coalition with other civil rights groups Undocublack, Color of Change and Define American

On Sunday night, Atlanta rapper 21 Savage (real name She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) was arrested and detained by ICE, which claims that he is British and illegally overstayed a visa issued in 2005.

In response, a petition from Black Lives Matter has been released, demanding that Abraham-Joseph’s potential deportation be halted. BLM is joined by a coalition of other civil rights organizations, including Undocublack, a network of undocumented black people, Color of Change, a civil rights advocacy non-profit, and Define American, an organization which uses storytelling to attempt to redefine how America understands immigration and citizenship.

According to the petition, Abraham-Joseph’s arrest and detention are part of a broader trend against black immigrants in America, and seeks to halt his deportation. The full text of the petition is below, and is available to sign here.

The hundreds of ICE assaults and detention of Black immigrants is an endemic in the United States, and is too often carried out with the assistance of local law enforcement. On February 3rd in the early afternoon, organizers were alerted to the arrest and detention of rapper, father, community activist and friend She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph -21 Savage. The circumstances of Mr. Abraham-Joseph’s detention stand as a testament to the consistent and historically under-reported harassment and targeting of Black immigrants. The US’ violent history of criminalizing Blackness intersects with its deadly legacy of detaining and deporting Black and Brown immigrants. This needs to stop today!

There are around 4.2 Million Black immigrants in the U.S. – 619,000 are undocumented. Mr. Abraham-Joseph has been in the United States since he was a young child. Atlanta is his home.

He has no current or prior criminal convictions and he is beloved by his friends, fans and family.

It is shameful that he and so many Black immigrants are separated from their families on a daily basis as part of the US’s heartless and racist immigration policies.

Rapper 21 Savage Arrested By ICE Days After Trashing Trump Border Policy

Rapper 21 Savage was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Sunday just days after criticizing the Trump administration for its immigration policies.

During a performance of his hit song “A Lot,” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, 21 Savage changed the lyrics to the song to take a shot at U.S. border policies under President Trump.

“Been through some things so I can’t imagine my kids stuck at the border, Flint still need water, People was innocent, couldn’t get lawyers,” he rapped.
The 26-year-old rapper, real name Sha Taa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested by ICE in Atlanta Sunday over alleged immigration violations.

According to ICE, the rapper was brought to the United States from the United Kingdom when he was a child in 2005 and did not leave after his visa expired a year later.

A statement from ICE reads:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested unlawfully present United Kingdom national Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA “21 Savage” during a targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners early Sunday in metro Atlanta. Mr. Abraham-Joseph was taken into ICE custody as he is unlawfully present in the U.S. and also a convicted felon.

Mr. Abraham-Joseph initially entered the U.S. legally in July 2005, but subsequently failed to depart under the terms of his nonimmigrant visa and he became unlawfully present in the U.S. when his visa expired in July 2006. In addition to being in violation of federal immigration law, Mr. Abraham-Joseph was convicted on felony drug charges in October 2014 in Fulton County, Georgia.

Mr. Abraham-Joseph is presently in ICE custody in Georgia and has been placed into removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts. ICE will now await the outcome of his case before a federal immigration judge to determine future actions.

The “No Heart” rapper’s lawyer responded to the arrest in a statement, “We are working diligently to get Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding.”

“Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country — especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy.”

Cops Connect 21 Savage to Fully Loaded Glock During Arrest

12:28 PM PT -- Contrary to the police report saying ATF was the arresting agency, 21's attorney, Alex Spiro, says, "ICE has confirmed he was targeted for immigration enforcement and nothing more. He was never arrested by the police, and some other individual's firearm and vehicle is not our concern here."

10:56 AM PT -- 21's attorney, Brian Steel, tells us both the Glock and the Dodge the rapper was driving are not his ... Steel would not specify who they belonged to.

21 Savage was driving recklessly and on a path to slam into a fully-marked cop car and that's why he was pulled over on the day he was taken into custody, and it looks like cops believe he was in possession of a fully loaded Glock ... this according to the police report.

TMZ has obtained 3 police reports which chronicle the events that led to the rapper being hauled into custody on the day of the Super Bowl.

According to the docs, 21 Savage was in a red Dodge Challenger that cops say drove across the sidewalk in an attempt to get onto another street. The cops pulled the car over and ATF agents -- who were also on scene -- ordered 21 to stop and throw the keys out the window. According to the report, 21 threw the keys out, along with a bottle containing an unknown substance.



21 got out of the car and was immediately handcuffed and taken away by ATF. The police report has an evidence inventory section and lists the firearm -- the fully loaded Glock -- as connected to 21 Savage.

The gun was found in the glove box in the Dodge 21 was driving. It had an extended magazine.

In the center console, there was a styrofoam cup containing an unknown substance. As for the bottle that was thrown out of the car ... cops don't say what was in it but it was taken into evidence.

What's unclear ... how ICE got involved. We had been previously told ICE directly took 21 Savage into custody at the scene, but according to the various documents, there were a variety of law enforcement agencies involved -- DeKalb K-9 Unit, Vice Unit, Narcotics Unit, ATF, Georgia State Patrol and the DeKalb 90 Unit ... but no mention of ICE. A source at ATF tells ICE was there, but for some reason, the agency is not listed on the report.

And, the documents say the target of the operation was actually another rapper -- Young Nudy -- who was in a separate car driving alongside of 21 Savage.

There were actually 3 cars involved in the arrest and cops say all of the people inside were connected. One guy -- Kalil Smith, who was in a different car from Savage -- was driving with an M4 rifle in the floorboard with the muzzle pointed in the direction of the officer.

21 Savage is no longer in ICE's custody for the time being.

21 Savage's friends, family, fans, and supporters have rallied together for the rapper's freedom since his arrest on Super Bowl Sunday. United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained the rapper on claims that he was living in America on an expired visa.

After a week of fighting, TMZ reports that he finally posted bond and has been released until his deportation hearing.

21 Savage's lawyer issued a statement following the rapper's release from ICE's custody. Charles H. Kuck, Dina LaPolt and Alex Spiro said, "21 Savage asked us to send a special message to his fans and supporters -- he says that while he wasn't present at the Grammy Awards, he was there in spirit and is grateful for the support from around the world and is more than ever, ready to be with his loved ones and continue making music that brings people together."

The rep continued, "He will not forget this ordeal or any of the other fathers, sons, family members, and faceless people, he was locked up with or that remain unjustly incarcerated across the country. And he asks for your hearts and minds to be with them."

The rapper's arrest prevented him from appearing at the Grammys where he was nominated for two awards. He was also expected to take the stage with Post Malone for their song, "rockstar." It's still unclear why 21 was detained for so long but we're hoping the outcome of his hearing is positive.
