Mexican leader meets anti-crime march organizers

    ASSOCIATED PRESS

    10:23 a.m. August 31, 2008

MEXICO CITY – President Felipe Calderón is receiving anti-crime proposals from civic leaders who drew more than 100,000 Mexicans to the streets to protest daily killings, abductions and shootouts.

The 14 civic groups say they are trying to keep pressure on Calderón to show results two years after taking office and promising an aggressive battle against drug traffickers and other criminal gangs.

The civic groups said they would give Calderón 10 proposals for fighting crime on Sunday but declined to give details. They also planned to meet with Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard.
More than 100,000 white-clad Mexicans marched in cities across the country Saturday night in an outpouring of anger with the country's soaring crime rate.

I am happy that that many Mexicans are daring to come out in public and protest. On the other hand, I heard reports of half-a-million Mexicans protesting our "evil" immigration laws last year.

Its about time Mexicans starts protesting. Calderdin hasnt done anything to fight crime but send a few more corrupt police and military people that are probably working along side with the drug cartels.
