Point Beach man accused of assault with box cutter

STAFF REPORT • February 15, 2008

POINT PLEASANT BEACH — Police have arrested a resident who cut another man with a box cutter during a fight on McLean Avenue, Chief Daniel DePolo said.

Pedro Garcia-Marin, 27, of Hawthorne Avenue (Route 35 North) was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon after his arrest shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Bail was set at $10,000 on the charges, but Garcia-Marin — who also uses the name Pedro M. Garcia — was listed at the Ocean County Jail as being held under a no-bail detainer from U.S. Immigrations Customs Enforcement because he is considered an illegal immigrant.

Garcia-Marin was with a group of people outside a home Saturday on McLean Avenue when Patrolman Kyle Boturla, assisted by Sgt. Joseph Michigan and Patrolman Michael Defluri, responded to a report of a disturbance.

Boturla found two men fighting, and one man was cut on his hand, an injury he claimed was from Garcia-Marin, police said. Police found a box cutter in Garcia-Marin's possession, DePolo said.
