NJ landlord sued for renting to illegal immigrants
June 6, 2008

TRENTON, N.J.

A group opposed to illegal immigration is using federal anti-corruption laws to sue a New Jersey property manager for allegedly renting apartments to undocumented immigrants.

The Immigration Reform Law Institute is suing Plainfield-based Connolly Properties saying the company steers illegal immigrants into its buildings believing they'll be too afraid to complain about deplorable conditions.

The Washington, D.C.-based group filed a civil suit in federal court earlier this week using RICO statutes to argue the property manager is laundering rent money that's been illegally obtained by harboring undocumented immigrants in its buildings.

A telephone message and a message left in person at the offices of Connolly Properties seeking comment were not immediately returned Friday.
