WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles on Tuesday closed its license plate agency on Peters Creek Parkway after a former agency was arrested on felony charges of fraud.

Zoila Bustos-Perez, who had worked at the license plate agency for six years, was arrested on charges brought by the DMV License and Theft Bureau of misapplication of government property, obtaining state vehicle titles by false pretense and accessing state government computers to defraud the state of North Carolina.

According to a media release from the state Department of Transportation, the agency will remain closed until DMV investigations are complete.

The investigation includes an audit of financial activity, an ongoing investigation into criminal activities and a contract review by the N.C. Attorney General's office.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also is investigating activities at the Peters Creek Parkway location.

Other area license plate agencies remain open, including one on Silas Creek Parkway and ones in Kernersville, Rural Hall and Walnut Cove.
