EUA maintains a strong relationship with both the American Council on Education (ACE) and the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). In addition to ongoing collaboration, the three associations meet every two years for the Transatlantic Dialogue, which bring together higher education leaders to discuss shared issues and concerns on both sides of the Atlantic. The focus of the 2005 meeting in Washington DC, focused upon the changing relationship between the state and higher education institutions and associations. This meeting was so successful that the date of the next one has been brought forward to Autumn 2006 in order to continue the discussions started in Washington DC. The focus of the 2006 Transatlantic Dialogue will be "Access, funding and affordability".Over the last few years, EUA has also been developing relations with the US Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) focusing on the important issues of reforms in doctoral training and the impact of the new (Bologna) degree structures on admission of European students to US graduate schools; other partners include the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) on the key issue of accountability and self-governance; and the Association of International Educators (NAFSA).
We represent 89 Canadian public and private not-for-profit universities and university-degree level colleges.

“Traitor”
Consular chief Harty is furious.
After news broke that, through what's known as a "Totalization Agreement," the State Department was brokering a deal to give up to $345 billion — or more — in Social Security benefits to illegal aliens from Mexico, Consular Affairs (CA) chief Maura Harty was furious. Not because the NR story ("Illegal But Paid," January 27 issue) wasn't accurate, but because it was.Harty lashed out at CA staff members, declaring that the "leak" at State was a "traitor." (NR may or may not have had a State Department source, and the story itself did not specify one way or the other.) After reminding them that "leaks" could see their salaries cut or lose their jobs, Harty instructed CA staffers to read State's "Mission Statement."
But when you actually look at the statement, it's not clear why Harty believes a potential "leak" at State would be a "traitor." Of the mission's five core values — loyalty, character, service, accountability, and community — State itself would seem to have violated at least two in its underhanded dealings with the Mexican government on the Totalization Agreement. Take loyalty, for starters — defined as "Commitment to the United States and the American people." How is a deal to divert $345 billion, over the next two decades, away from Social Security and into the pockets of illegal aliens an act of "commitment to the United States and the American people"?When White House officials learned the scope of the Totalization Agreement ("totalization" is government-speak for combining or "totalizing" the Social Security taxes paid by individuals into the U.S.'s and a foreign country's respective systems to create a single, harmonized retirement payment), the eye-popping price tag caught many off guard. Explains one senior GOP congressional staffer: "The White House thought this was a low-cost favor to get in Vicente Fox's good graces." According to people familiar with the negotiations, officials at State knew illegal aliens would be covered by the deal — and they also knew that the White House didn't know. Which brings us to "character," which State's mission statement defines as "Maintenance of high ethical standards and integrity."

Napolitano tours new lanes at U.S.-Mexico border
Cross-border truck drivers deemed "low risk" will be able to take the fast lane from Mexico to the United States. Nogales joined several other border cities added extra lanes to commercial checkpoints as part of the federal Free And Secure Trade, or FAST, program.
Governor Janet Napolitano was on hand for the dedication today. Trucks with special passes can use designated lanes and go to the front of the line if they are singled out for full inspections. They must go through prescreening and implement internal security procedures to qualify. Drivers in regular commercial lanes face three to four hour waits for inspections during peak periods.
Governor Napolitano also met with about 35 National Guard members serving from Arizona and Nevada. They are doing maintenance and engineering projects along with staffing a communications room where they monitor border surveillance cameras. The governor says the guard members’ work frees up more Border Patrol agents to capture illegal immigrants and drug smugglers.

Will discuss 'North American Union,' Iran

WND columnist and author Jerome Corsi will be a guest today on G. Gordon Liddy's radio show to discuss the crisis with Iran and the White House's effort to implement a trilateral agreement with Mexico and Canada that could lead to a North American union, despite having no authorization from Congress.
Corsi will join Liddy for the final two hours of his show, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern time, and take calls from listeners.
You can listen to the program here.
Corsi has been reporting on a closed-door meeting of high-level government and business leaders from the U.S., Canada and Mexico that discussed the merger of North America. The meeting was designed to subvert the democratic process, charged an attendee of the confab.
Meanwhile, Corsi's book "Atomic Iran" continues to provide insight amid growing tensions with Iran over its nuclear program.
Last week, Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad used the U.N. podium to call fervently for Islam's fabled messiah, or "Mahdi," to come to earth. He previously has referred to Muslim teaching that says this can happen only after an apocalyptic holocaust that leaves most of the world's population dead.

The U.N. has made several attempts at this at least since 1995.in fact the U.N I believe has tried to intrude on our second amendment rights because of these treaties MAYBE NAFTA ..see as followsI don't care what you call me, so long as you call me AMERICAN.

We need to push this to our members of Congress. Last August 19, 2005 when I spoke with members of Sue Myrick’s team (Matt Priest & ...), they told me she would be opposed to something like this. I wonder if she will keep her word
