North Carolina Voter Registration Application/Update Form

We decided to change our voter registration to "unaffiliated" here in NC (independent not an option), and found this bit of nonsense on the form. Next to the section where you enter your address, is a box that says "If you do not have a street address, draw a map of where you reside. Please include roads and landmarks." Here is a copy of the box.

You can view the real thing here:

Who on earth is that box for?!! In NC it's probable that it is for illegal immigrants living trailers and the in backs of tractor trailers.

Nominally, I would guess that it is to account for persons considered 'homeless'. Of course, in verifying addresses to ensure the integrity of the registered voting rolls, well, things could get rather complex and tricky and quite quickly.

One question folks in NC should ask our election officials here in OR is: "So how do you facilitate voting (for people with no permanent street address) when the entire system is now based on mail-in balloting"?

We really need to do something here in N.C. Our elected officials are smoking something, for sure.

Hey now folks, that box has been on or forms for a long time.

Please remember that most of NC is a very rural. There are places up in the mountains and out in the countryside where people still use RR or Rural Route post boxes. Most of these have changed over recent years with a push for 911 Addressing.

Still, some people live out in the boonies and do not receive their mail at home. They get their mail from PO boxes they must travel a good distance to reach.

Since a registered voter must be assigned into districts based on where they live, they added that box for when the situation is not clear cut.

PA has a section on their voter registration form for exactly the same reasons W mentions.
