SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) - Dueling immigration rallies are slated today in San Rafael.

Immigrant rights supporters plan to gather at 11 a-m to call for a stop to the federal government's campaign to arrest illegal immigrants. More than 18,000 illegal immigrants have been taken into custody under Operation Return to Sender.

Yesterday, Northern California Catholic bishops and other faith leaders held a news conference in San Rafael to oppose the raids. They say the raids have spread fear among the immigrant community and is affecting innocent children.

Meanwhile, the Golden Gate Minuteman Project supports deportation of illegal immigrants and plan to gather for its own rally at 1 p-m today.
