NOT THE KIND OF CHANGE WE NEED, CRIMINAL CLASS

Not the kind of change we need

Times Record News (Wichita Falls, Texas)
    August 12, 2009 Wednesday
    Marion W. York, Wichita Falls

History! A word that cries out, "read me," for I am a record of the greatest achievements and most miserable failures of mankind. History has recorded the failure of Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society," socialism all over the world and universal medicine in Canada, Great Britain and most of Europe. History has also recorded the success of our free market system as we enjoy the highest standard of living in the entire world.

The Social Security system is going to run out of money soon, as is Medicare. Social Security loses some money each year to fraud, but Medicare loses billions each year, while both are poorly managed due to "one size fits all" regulations. And what does our current administration plan on doing to solve these problems? They are ignoring Social Security and planning a huge new government health care plan to further overwork the limited number of medical workers and give the people engaged in fraud another target, so more billions will go down the drain.

Illegal immigration is another problem to be solved. As far as the illegal immigration problem goes, they plan on making all illegal immigrants citizens, so we will not have an illegal immigration problem. It won't save any money; in fact, it will cost much more as the new citizens will be eligible for welfare, too.

History! (that ugly word again). Does anyone remember what happened in the '80s when we solved our illegal immigration problem by making three million illegal immigrants citizens? The three million became 10-12 million when all the relatives arrived and became citizens too. Not only did it not solve the immigration problem, it seems to have increased the number of illegal immigrants coming here. Twenty years later, we no longer have a paltry three million, but 10-12 million illegal immigrants to deal with. Question is, will the 10-12 million turn into 30-40 million in the same manner as last time? The last thing this country needs is 30-40 million under-educated people to swell the welfare and unemployment rolls.

"Change we can believe in?" How are you enjoying the change so far?

    The criminal class

    Bob Teague, Wichita Falls

Not long ago a writer wrote two excellent letters about the corruption, outrageous growth and size of the federal government, in particular Congress. How true! I agree completely and believe this Congress is the most corrupt and reprehensible Congress ever. It is rife with the most despicable bunch of tax cheats and criminals in history. And then there is Roland Burris and Al Franken.

These incompetents pass hundreds of laws that over tax us and our descendants, make our lives miserable with unnecessary regulation, plunder our civil rights and freedoms, saddle us with massive debt and subject us to a repressive government.

No wonder this Congress has the worst rating in history. This Congress is so corrupt that words such as scandal, corruption, ineptness, and stupid need to be redefined.

Isn't it strange that the instant these dolts take office they become experts in energy, education, military stratagem, insurance, health care, national defense, environment, automobiles, aircraft, household plumbing, engineering, speed limits, cattle flatulence, weather, banking, mortgages, et al, ad nauseam, when few have a clue about anything?

And why hasn't Nancy Pelosi been indicted for lying in the enhanced interrogation on terrorists fiasco when she lied about not having been informed of the techniques? Is she a congenital liar or what? Well, golly gee, isn't she is a Democrat? Need we say more?

Justin Dart, CEO of a major corporation, once said: "Dialogue with politicians is a fine thing, but with money they hear you a little better."

Mark Twain once said "Congress is our only native criminal class."

Do you believe most politicians are receiving incentives from labor unions, leftist loons, and ACORN for improved hearing?

It doesn't really matter which party is in control in Congress, the outcome is pushing through what the majority party wants. Repub. Reagan pushed through the amnesty in 1986, promising to secure the borders--didn't happen. The feds have ignored enforcing our laws for years.
And after 9/11, the Patriot Act was pushed through with lightning speed with no input from the Americans it would affect, and so was the TARP program.
Pelosi and Reid have now both the power they wanted, and Congress buckles to their every whim: here is 1000 pages of the bill to read tonight and we vote at 9 a.m.
The difference with Congress these days is that the American people are waking up.
