Effort to challenge Obama's executive action on immigration being fought by coalition of states.

President Obama’s executive action to halt deportation for as many as 5 million undocumented immigrants continues to inflame passions – and action -- on both sides of the issue, with Texas Atty. Gen. Greg Abbott announcing Wednesday that seven more states have signed on to court action challenging the policy while a broad coalition of law enforcement and faith leaders voiced their support of the president.

“The president’s proposed executive decree violates the U.S. Constitution and federal law, circumvents the will of the American people and is an affront to the families and individuals who follow our laws to legally immigrate to the United States,” Abbott said after amending his original court complaint to increase the number of states that have signed on to 24.

In addition to Arizona and Florida, Arkansas, Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio and Oklahoma have also joined the coalition objecting to the president’s actions.

But others, including Chief James R. Lopez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Richard Biehl, the police chief of Dayton, Ohio, say the executive order is a welcome measure in lieu of comprehensive congressional action on the issue.

“This action taken by the president is an important first step,” offered Lopez, who said nearly 10% of Los Angeles County residents may be undocumented.

“In the immigrant communities that we serve dialogue is important. We cannot do our job without the assistance of everyone in the community, including those who heretofore have had a great fear of reporting crime for fear of being identified as undocumented," he said as part of a conference call on the issue.

The action "has increased the dialogue. And we are very hopeful that it will continue to increase the dialogue between the immigrant communities and law enforcement to help us do our job," he said.

Jim Wallis, an evangelical Christian writer, political activist and founder of the Washington-based Sojourners community, said he saw the president’s actions in religious terms.

“The reaction to the executive order by President Obama outside Washington is very different than inside,” he said. “Maybe the word that describes the reaction inside is anger. But the joy on the outside is what I feel across the country.

“The relief to families. The relief to congregants, people in our churches. It’s very simple. We’re going to support those decisions that bring relief to our people. And this executive order brings relief to our people.”

Wallis called the inability of Congress to pass bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform a “moral failure” and challenged the incoming Republican-led leadership to seek legislative relief.

Wallis that went on to quote Scripture.

“What does it mean to welcome a stranger?” he said, referring to Matthew 25. “And what Jesus says there is how we treat the stranger is how we treat Christ himself. So legislators now, in the new Congress, have to understand whether they pass immigration reform or not is how they will treat the stranger.

“And for us that means how they treat Christ himself.”

Trying beat people into submission with the religious guilt card is a non starter. It is still a Federal crime to aid and abet illegal aliens.

Why do law enforcement officers need a dialogue with illegal aliens? Is it to get one illegal alien to tell on another illegal alien? Well, gee, if there were no illegal aliens, there would be no need for this dialogue, because there wouldn't be any illegal aliens here committing crimes to begin with, now would there?

These pro-amnesty/illegal alien law enforcement officer are just dumb as rocks and as crooked as a Wall Street banker. Law enforcement officers who want dialogue with illegal aliens are cops on the drug take. There's absolutely no other reason on God's Green Earth for cops to want to keep illegal aliens in the country to talk to them about crime.

If an illegal alien is a witness to a crime or the victim of a crime law enforcement needs to get their info.

Wouldn't that apply to any witness to a crime or victim of a crime? With respect to illegal aliens, if they weren't here, they wouldn't be a victim of a crime or a witness to a crime in our country would they? If an illegal alien witnesses a crime, then they're no different than any other citizen or legal immigrant who is a witness to a crime are they? I don't see or hear anyone offering American drug offenders, tax evaders, traffic violator, felons, parolees, probation cases or any other type of lawbreaking group massive collective amnesty just because a few of them might be a victim of a crime or a witness to a crime. What makes illegal aliens as a group so "special" for law enforcement officers?

If your kid or grandkid gets snatched off the playground and the only witness is an illegal alien you might want them to give a description of the kidnapper to the police instead of running away and hiding.

Again, what makes the illegal alien witness any different than any drug user/drug dealer/lawbreaker who witnesses a kidnapping off the playground? Does law enforcement want to provide amnesty to all drug users/drug dealers/lawbreakers in case they might witness a crime and police want a description of the kidnapper instead of running away and hiding?

Needing a witness to provide a description of someone who has committed a crime is just that, nothing more or less. It has nothing to do with illegal immigration or illegal aliens. So for police to claim they need amnesty for 11 to 20 million illegal aliens in order for the police to do their job is just like claiming that every violator of any law should be given amnesty so they talk to police instead of hiding and running away out of fear of being caught for their crimes so police can do their jobs.

So again, what makes illegal aliens so "special" to some law enforcement?

God, I hate them all for letting this awful bill to actually pass without any attempt at stopping Obama's Amnesty. We must stop him along with anyone who pulled off or voted for this amnesty. We must remove any Republican who helped to get this bill on the floor of the house for a vote and there are many of them. Do not let their NO vote tonight make you blind to how they allowed it to even happen. They are the enemy of the citizens of this nation and we must do all within our power to end this mess they are making of our country. If this action is allowed to continue, it is the death of the USA !!!!!!!

I am really to march, we must do it, we must !!!! Let's march on the capital !!!!

No nation does more to "welcome strangers". We're doing it to the point of self-destruction.
