NV-Backlog grows at Las Vegas immigration court
Backlog grows at Las Vegas immigration court
May 30, 2010
Comments(4) LAS VEGAS (AP) — A backlog at the Las Vegas Immigration Court is slowing down deportations.
The backlog reached nearly 1,600 cases in March, up 38 percent over the figure 18 months before and the second highest rate in the nation.
In all, the Las Vegas Immigration Court dealt with nearly 4,400 immigration matters in 2009, up from about 3,500 a year before.
Experts say the growing caseload reflects the work of Las Vegas police and prison guards, who were given authority more than two years ago to ferret out immigration violators in custody.
Authorities place detainers on suspected illegal aliens, allowing immigration officials to take custody of them before they get released for other crimes.

Have Joe Arpaio design detention facilities fewer detainees will want to contest their cases.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
