Area Residents Successfully Complete First Citizen’s Academy in Houlton

(Thursday, August 06, 2009)

Hodgdon, Maine – On Wednesday, August 5, local citizens of Maine successfully completed the first Citizen’s Academy held by the U.S. Border Patrol Houlton Station.

The Citizen’s Academy consisted of local citizens and met every Wednesday night from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for a five-week period. The Academy informed the community on the overall mission and function of the United States Border Patrol and the Houlton Sector.

The Houlton Citizen’s Academy was open to all citizens, 18 years of age and above, who were interested in learning about the Border Patrol’s history, legal authority, mission operations, and partnerships. Attendees received approximately 16 hours of instruction within a period of five weeks from Border Patrol agents and various guest speakers, including other Federal and local law enforcement agencies.

“The Citizen’s Academy is a great conduit that allows us to keep our citizens abreast of the Border Patrol mission and creates an open dialogue with the citizens that we serve. We are very proud of the area residents who have recently completed the class and we look forward to working with next years participants,â€
