Two killed after car goes wrong way on Route 52

    September 8, 2007

SANTEE: Two people died in a head-on crash early yesterday when a speeding car going the wrong way on state Route 52 slammed into a pickup driven by an off-duty Border Patrol agent, officials said.

The crash occurred just after 2:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the freeway at Mast Boulevard.

Before the crash, several motorists called 911 to report a Toyota Prius heading east, going at least 100 mph in the fast lane, Highway Patrol Officer Rob Sanchez said. The 2007 Prius collided with a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup.

The county Medical Examiner's Office identified the Prius driver as Shayne Rae Leatherwood, 22, of Poway.

The Border Patrol agent was identified as Neil Wilkie Hepburn, 35, a married father of two children, ages 7 and 2. He lived with his family in San Diego. Hepburn, a nine-year veteran, had been driving home after completing a shift as a supervisory agent of the canine program at the Campo Border Patrol station.

Hepburn had previously served on the San Diego sector's distinguished horse patrol unit and as an emergency medical technician, officials said.

The CHP said it was not yet known if alcohol was a factor in the crash. –K.K. & M.A.

Yes it is her. Infact, someone already posted a RIP message to her. On her site, she admits she found drugs, alcohol, and other things. So we can assume it is drugs or alcohol that caused the crash. What a shame, so young and to take another life. May God Have Mercy on her.

As for the Border Patrol May God comfort his family and give them strength thru these difficult times.

Border Patrol Agent Killed In Head-On Crash Honored

    POSTED: 6:43 pm PDT September 12, 2007

BALBOA PARK, Calif. -- A memorial service was held in Balboa Park Wednesday for a U.S. Border Patrol agent who died last week in a head-on crash.

The service for Neil Hepburn, 35, of Tierrasanta, took place at the park's organ pavilion at 10:30 a.m. The memorial included an honor guard, bagpipes, and eulogies from family members, friends, and co-workers.

He was killed last Friday when another driver, Shayne Leatherwood, 22, struck his truck head-on while driving at speeds of 100 mph, according to the California Highway Patrol. Hepburn had just completed his 10-hour shift at the Campo station.

He leaves behind a wife and two children. Hepburn was a nine-year veteran of the Border Patrol, having spent most of his career serving on the Border Patrol's San Diego sector's horse patrol out of Imperial Beach.

Hepburn was born in Dundee, Scotland, and immigrated to the United States as a child. He attended San Diego State University.
