PORT CHESTER - A man convicted of attempted rape in 1999 and deported is accused of causing a disturbance outside a village church, police said yesterday.

Police found out that Samuel Carranza, 34, had been deported when a friend came to bail him out shortly after his arrest early Thursday, police said. The suspect initially identified himself as Favio Sagtisado, so no criminal history came up, police said.

Carranza, of 23 Summer St., Port Chester, had given the false name when he was arrested after being accused of slapping another man outside St. Peter's Church on Westchester Avenue just after midnight, police said. He was charged with false personation, a misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a violation. He is being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

He was convicted of attempted rape for a Harrison incident and of driving while intoxicated in 2001 in the Bronx. He was deported to El Salvador in December 2003.

The slapping victim did not want to press charges.
