Palm Beach police and the U.S. Border Patrol arrested two illegal immigrants from Jamaica after a foot chase along the beach before dawn Friday.

A caller reported two suspicious men on the beach in the 1400 block of South Ocean Boulevard just after 4:30 a.m. Officers caught one of the men, who had been hiding in the bushes before darting into the trees, at 5:06 a.m. Border Patrol agents with a K-9 unit caught the other man at 7:20 a.m. in a stand of trees.

Officer Craig Newby saw the duo on the beach near the Bath & Tennis Club, and shined his light on them. They ran south; Newby chased after them, to the west, off the beach.

He and Officer Brody Scott found one man at the former Blossom Estate and identified him as Howard Lindsay, 40.

Lindsay told officers he and his cousin had been dropped off by a fisherman from the Bahamas. According to his Jamaican passport, he arrived in the Bahamas Jan. 6 with a two-week visa, police said.

Police contacted U.S. Border Patrol, and agents found Kemar Wallace, 25, in some trees in the 1200 block of South Ocean Boulevard. He also had a Jamaican passport.

U.S. Border Patrol agent John Modlin said both men were in good health. They were taken to a holding area in Riviera Beach before transfer to either Broward County or Miami/Dade County for removal proceedings, Modlin said.
