Police: Human-smuggling ring busted in Phoenix area

Thirteen arrests were made Wednesday in connection to a Guatemalan-based human smuggling ring operating in Phoenix area, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The arrests were made at four locations in the West Valley by DPS detectives from the Illegal Immigration Prevention & Apprehension Co-op Team, Phoenix police, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Goodyear police.

Three of the locations were residential homes at 67th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Glendale, 75th Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix, and 75th Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix, DPS spokesman Bart Graves said. The fourth location was a storage lot at Citrus and McDowell roads in Goodyear.

The suspects taken into custody include 10 adults and three juveniles, according to DPS.

Several vehicles were also seized, according to DPS.
