What’s Wrong With What Joe The Plumber Said?

    Tuesday, July 7, 2009
Think Progress (Soros-backed liberal blog) has a problem with a statement Joe the Plumber said at a Tea Party recently. Here’s the quote:

WURZELBACHER: I believe in making sure our country is safe first. I believe weneed to spend a little more on illegalimmigrants. Get them the hell out of our damn country and close the borders down. We can do it. We’ve got the greatest military in the world and you’re telling me we can’t close our borders? — That’s just ridiculous.

See, the operative word here is ILLEGAL immigration. Liberals don’t get that, because they think it’s perfectly ok for people to just come across the border and do whatever they want, especially if it sucks tax-payer dollars away from actual citizens in need.

We should be concentrating on border security. We should be concentrating on getting these people out of the country and, at the very least, making them go back, get in line, and come here legally. Why does the left have such difficulty understanding that concept? Because if we actually do it, it denies them their next constituency, their next special victims group. That’s the only reason Democrats care about this issue. Or, more precisely, why they say they care. They don’t actually care, they just want the votes.

This isn’t about racism, no matter what the left says about it. It’s about national security and the rule of law. If we cannot — or, worse still, will not— defend our own border, then we may as well give it up right now, because nothing we do will save this country.

As for the statistics these kooks cite when they cry about what will happen should we get rid of all illegal immigrants, don’t be fooled by it. When these people go back home and come here legally, wages will rise. Right now there is absolutely no incentive for an employer to pay an illegal immigrant a decent wage, because what’s he going to do about it? If he does anything, the employer can turn him in and send his butt home. To me, that’s just another version of slavery. When you have 12 million (or more) illegal immigrants in a situation like that, that’s not fairness or stepping up in the world, that’s trading one form of poverty and misery for another.

    I agree, but

I agree with everything except this:

"We should be concentrating on getting these people out of the country and, at the very least, making them go back, get in line, and come here legally."

If someone is caught being an illegal alien in the US, that should automatically exclude them from coming to the US in any legal form-as a visitor, legal alien, work visa, etc.
