DEMING, N.M. - Border Patrol agents captured a sex offender with an extensive criminal history while on patrol Friday near the New Mexico town of Rodeo.

The U.S. Border Patrol said 22-year-old Rafael Figueroa-Enriquez was being held Tuesday at the Luna County Detention Center pending his extradition to Mexico.

Figueroa-Enriquez was one of six men captured by agents working the Lordsburg Station in southeast New Mexico.

The Border Patrol said a check of databases revealed Figueroa-Enriquez's criminal history included conviction of attempted sexual abuse, attempted forgery and attempted identity theft. Those convictions were in Yavapai County, Ariz.

Figueroa-Enriquez is also registered, in Arizona, as a sex offender and had been previously removed from the U.S.
