Obama, Calderon Lift U.S. Ban on Mexican Trucks, Retaliatory

U.S. makes deal to let in Mexico’s trucks

"Obama said the U.S. and Mexico partners had "found a clear path to resolving" the issue .."
This afternoon at a joint White House press conference with Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon, President Obama announced the two countries now have a deal on the table to open U.S. highways to Mexican truck operators.

According to a BBC report just posted, Obama said the U.S. and Mexico partners had "found a clear path to resolving" the issue that has clouded diplomatic relations for the two free-trade partners for 20 years.

The President said the proposed agreement deal would be headed next to Congress for approval. However, no details of the deal were noted in the online news report.

Although U.S. and Mexican trucks had been authorized to cross the shared border under the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, the US has effectively refused to let Mexican trucks into the U.S. thanks to organized resistance here over the years that hat centered on whether those vehicles meet U.S. highway safety and environmental standards as well as security concerns in the age of terrorism.

The Mexican government retaliated last year by placing tariffs on a number of US goods after Congress killed funding for a pilot program that had allowed long-haul Mexican linehaul trucks over the border.

That international politics were at play in setting the stage for this announcement is indisputable. As the BBC report noted: “The announcement of the trucking deal comes roughly two weeks after the killing of a U.S. agent in Mexico and leaked U.S. criticism of Mexico's war on drugs, both of which have worked to degrade a relationship between the nations that had until recently seen improvement in the past several years.â€

    Dozens Die in Mexican Fireball:
    Chemical Fertilizer Truck Exploded

A truck loaded with chemical fertilizer exploded in Mexico after a traffic accident, creating a huge fireball that killed dozens, including rescue workers and photographers.

People stuck in the traffic jam caused by the accident were also killed in the blast that left a crater 20 meters wide and three metres deep near the town of Nadadores in the northern state of Coahuila, witnesses and officials said.

Obama, Calderon Lift U.S. Ban on Mexican Trucks, Retaliatory Quotas

Mexico and the U.S. agreed to end a ban on Mexican trucks crossing the border to operate across the United States.

The agreement, announced today after a meeting by Mexican President Felipe Calderon and U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington, would lead to Mexico dropping tariffs on $2.4 billion worth of U.S. pork, cheese, corn and fruits, the White House said in a statement today.

“We finally have found a clear path to resolve the dispute over trucking between our two countries,â€

Oh... boy... Happy2Bme, like your cartoon...

Now is there anyone out there who are old enough to have and did watch Hee-Haw?

Here's a little ditty from that show that I remember well... for some reason... I even sang it to my doctor once and she just cracked up, my friends do too. I occasionally sing it just to lighten the mood.

Blue despair and agony on me...
Deep dark depression, excessive misery... ooohhh
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...
Blue... despair and agony on me...

    Have a good weekend all!

Time to start calling congress to stop this OBOZO idiot again.
You cannot dedicate yourself to America unless you become in every
respect and with every purpose of your will thoroughly Americans. You
cannot become thoroughly Americans if you think of yourselves in groups. President Woodrow Wilson

I didn't authorize obummer, the idiot, to negotiate on behalf of my country! I feel sorry for those living in the Midwest, since it looks as if they will be centered in the middle of the war zone. Get used to more illegals, more drugs and more contraband coming your way! I suspect we will be seeing a rise in mexican truckers being busted carrying load of illegals and drugs.

I cannot believe with the current state of mexico and the border situation, obummer would enter into such an agreement!

Anyone who knows anything about transportation understands that in order to make money, you have to have a load on your back. No load, no money! So once these mexican truckers reach their destination in the US, they will be looking to carry a load south again, on their way back to mexico. We already know they have a penchant for undercutting American labor. They will have no problems whatsoever securing work in this country and everyone knows this. I cannot believe the Teamsters are at all happy at the moment, since this agreement poses substantial issues to their members.

What this means is by allowing Mexican trucks into this country, there’s a substantial likelihood that more and more American truckers are going to have a difficult time securing loads and making money. As if the employment situation isn’t bad enough in this country. I suspect it’s going to get a little worse because of this agreement.

Once again, obummer sells out Americans in order to make mexico happy!
