Texas agency to add 4K cameras along Mexico border

    Associated Press 3:35 p.m. CST December 5, 2014

AUSTIN -- The Texas Department of Public Safety is planning to add 4,000 surveillance cameras along the Mexico border.

The agency's director, Steve McCraw, says installations of the new devices will stretch from El Paso to Brownsville.

The San Antonio Express-News reports about 1,300 motion-sensitive cameras are stationed along the border. The additional technology will help law enforcement's monitoring efforts as National Guard troops, assigned to several observation posts in the Rio Grande Valley, are set to leave in March.

McCraw says the department will work as quickly as possible to set up the cameras.

Implementing Universal E-Verify would do more for closing the border than will any other measure. Most illegals come here, to get better paying jobs. Let's turn off the jobs magnet.

I agree, vistalad, but at the present time it seems that TX is attempting too do more than other states. E-verify will not turn off the magnet without a federal law. TX as I understand if footing the bill for multi-states to sue Obama. Now TX adding more cameras, not a cheap toy to add. I'd like to see more states participate in acquiring some sort of border control. I've seen many pleading with their states to participate in the lawsuit, but not pleading to share the costs. How much can one state do realistically. TX is planning to spend another 84 million on beefed up security from now to summer. Some help from other states would be encouraging to myself and TX.
