PHOENIX -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized seven firearms and ammunition for assault rifles from a pickup truck trying to cross the border into Mexico on Saturday morning, authorities said.

According to a news release from CBP, officers at the Douglas Port of Entry became suspicious of a 2000 Ford F-250 driven by an 18-year-old Tucson man, and found the weapons and ammunition hidden in the back seat's upholstery with the help of a K-9 unit.

Officers seized the three 12-gauge pump-action shotguns, the three assault rifles with high-capacity magazines, the compact short-barreled assault weapon, the ammunition for the assault rifles and the truck, CBP said.

The driver, whose name was not released, was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for questioning, CBP said.
