Virginia Beach police say murder victim was also illegal

Virginia Beach police say murder victim was also illegal immigrant

Two illegal immigrants accused of murdering a Virginia Beach man await trial
Virginia Beach police say the man that was shot and killed by Isidor Amaya and Alberto Loredo is also an illegal immigrant.

Police say Amaya and Loredo shot and killed 40-year-old Florentino Martinez-Melendez and critically wounded another illegal immigrant in the Trailer City mobile home park in Virginia Beach on Saturday.

Amaya and Loredo are both facing murder charges for shooting and killing Melendez. The Virginia Beach Commonwealth Attorney, Harvey Bryant, says both men will be tried in Virginia Beach for murder even though they are both illegal immigrants from Mexico.

"We go through the process of the trial, if they are found guilty during sentencing they will spend time in a Virginia penitentiary until they have completed their sentence, if there is a sentence to complete, that meaning that they don't get life," Bryant said.

According to Bryant, Amaya and Loredo do not have a criminal history here in Virginia. He says both have been living and also working in Virginia for awhile - in fact, Amaya has lived and worked in Virginia for a decade.

"It appears that Mr. Amaya has been in Virginia for about 10 years, spending his time between Harrisburg, Virginia and here," Bryant said.

Immigration Customs and Enforcement, or ICE, has been notified that both Amaya and Loredo are illegal immigrants.

An ICE spokesperson in Washington D.C. says they have put a hold on both men, meaning if they do bail out, they won't be released, but will instead be put in ICE custody.

Amaya and Loredo both face charges of murder and the use of a firearm. Both men are being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Facility without bond.

Their preliminary hearing is set for February 4.

Two illegal immigrants accused of murdering man

Two illegal immigrants accused of murdering a Virginia Beach man await trial

Alberto Loredo and Isidro Amaya had their first appearance in court. Both are accused of shooting two men at trailer city community in Virginia Beach on Saturday.

Police say Loredo and Amaya killed one of the men and the other man is in critical condition at Sentara Virginia Beach general.

Just moments after the shooting police say an officer saw the two men driving down Virginia Beach Boulevard and that's when Loredo and Amaya were arrested.

"Good police work, dumb luck, whatever you want to call it, he decides to make a u-turn, get behind the vehicle, call some additional units just in case it was a suspect vehicle and it turns out that was our two suspects.

Today in Virginia Beach general district court the judge talked to both of the men with an interpreter on the phone.

The commonwealth attorney's office says both men are from Mexico and are illegally in this country.

The judge says she didn't know about this and proceeded to tell the men that they both need to hire their own attorneys to represent them before their preliminary trial.

Va. Beach Police Dept.On Saturday night, Virginia Beach police arrested Jorge Alberto Fuertes Loredo, 31, and Isidor Loredo Amaya, 31, after Florentino Martinez-Melendez, 40, was shot to death in a trailer park. A second victim survived the shooting but remains in critical condition in a local hospital.

Apparently, the fatal shooting was the result of a heated argument.

Both Loredo and Amaya have been charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Both Mexican nationals are in the country illegally, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have placed a hold on them.

Virginia Beach Commonwealth Attorney, Harvey Bryant, said that the two illegal aliens have been living in the state for quite some time.

Bryant said: "It appears that Mr. Amaya has been in Virginia for about 10 years, spending his time between Harrisburg, Virginia and here.â€

While the leadership of Virginia Beach has never formally declared the city to be a 'sanctuary' for illegal aliens, the way the leadership of Chicago or Tucson have done, it is every bit the haven to invaders that those two cities represent.
Harrisonburg Needs this problem looked into also. We have a lot of poultry plants that will only hire mexicans, and a lot of them are illegal.
