Ex detention officer sentenced for marrying illegal immigrant

TUCSON, Ariz. A former border detention officer has been sentenced to four months of home confinement after pleading guilty to marrying an illegal immigrant.

Forty-two-year-old Ramon Sanchez told prosecutors that he met the woman in August 2004 and began dating her despite knowing she was illegally in the U-S.

Sanchez worked with the Department of Homeland Security.

He married Flor Liliana Velasco-Barrera in February 2005.

The couple, along with Velasco-Barrera's ten-year-old son, lived together in Tucson until April 2005.

He was later arrested and pleaded guilty in October 2005.

In addition to the 120 days of home confinement, Sanchez will serve three years' probation and pay a fine.

Sanchez is also restricted from working in local, state or federal law enforcement.

Gee do you think? Instead of reporting her he marries her? Good to see he lost his job as well Should have done jail time but we'll take it that he can no longer work for local, state or federal law enforcement. Its security guard heaven for this jerk

I didn't know it was illegal to marry an illegal alien, it happens a lot and of course we have read the sob stories here about spouses separated after deportation, but is it illegal for everyone or just people in law enforcement?

I do not believe it is, but when you work for the government it is, as you sign a statement to uphold our laws and marrying a known illegal alien is one of them especially if you are working for the department of homeland security. A major bad move, maybe someone ratted him out.
