Baja governor also decries fence plan

WASHINGTON – In an understated version of the tough talk that is common during a presidential election year in Mexico, the governor of Baja California chided U.S. authorities for allegedly allowing known drug traffickers to cross the border.

Addressing reporters here, Gov. Eugenio Elorduy Walther also urged the United States yesterday not to expand the border fence near San Diego or cut off seepage of water from the All-American Canal into Baja California farmland and wetlands.

“The so-called 'solution' of building one, two or three walls to further divide us will limit our potential, and will not result in bettering the opportunities and quality of life for those on either side of the border,â€
