CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Officials say seven men are being held for questioning about an attack last night in which a Los Angeles County sheriff's helicopter was struck by two bullets but managed to land safely.
Sheriff's officials say the chopper was hovering in an unincorporated area west of Carson when shots were fired at it around 11 p.m.
A sheriff's deputy says the pilot heard a "thump" and decided to land at the Carson sheriff's station.

The deputy says two bullets -- apparently fired from a high-powered rifle -- struck the helicopter's underside and tail.

Officials say the attack is being investigated as a gang-related attempted murder of a police officer. The pilot was not injured.
An investigation led sheriff's deputies to a local home and at around 3 a.m. today a SWAT team surrounded the house.

Officials say eventually seven men were brought out and handcuffed. Authorities say they have not been immediately arrested.
