Complaint: Masonry firm uses illegals

HAMILTON – A construction business coalition has complained to state officials that a local masonry company should not be allowed to build new public schools in Hamilton because the company allegedly uses illegal immigrant workers.

During a meeting of the Ohio School Facilities Commission, held earlier this week in Columbus, a researcher with the Ohio Construction Coalition sharply criticized Mason-based ABC Precision Masonry & Concrete.

The researcher, Al Adams, read a statement to the commission claiming that ABC Masonry has a history of hiring illegal immigrants and should not be approved as a contractor when the commission votes later to award contracts for Hamilton’s four new elementaries – or any other public school project in Ohio.

“At a time when jobs for Ohioans are at a critical point, it is unconscionable that contractors that hire illegal aliens…be awarded contracts funded by tax money,â€

[quote]The company, which worked recently on a Cincinnati Public Schools’ project, was the employer of four Mexican illegal workers who were slain in December in their Sharonville apartment.

McCurley said critics target his company not because of alleged illegal workers but because it is non-union, which allows lower labor costs and the ability to under-bid firms with unionized workforces.

“They are trying to discredit us. Everyone employed at ABC is American – that’s the bottom line. But we’re not union and they (coalition) would say that of any company that wasn’t union,â€

I wish that every construction union was so firm in opposing illegal labor. The ones I am familiar are overly eager to sign illegals in as members. More dues payers = higher salaries for union bosses. My union even had an illegal working as an organizer---so that is how serious they are about pandering to the IA construction worker. And they will keep using this strategy until there is no longer room for the American worker.
