COLUMBUS, Ohio - A judge set bond at $15,000 on Saturday for man who allegedly told police he collects debts for a drug cartel.

Isaac Eli Perez Neri was stopped by Madison Township police Thursday night when the sport utility vehicle he was riding in ran a stop sign, according to an officer.

The police report indicated that when the officer stopped the vehicle in the 5100 block of Sedalia Drive, the Neri reached down toward his feet despite being instructed not to move.

After a police K9 indicated the presence of narcotics in the SUV, police said they found a loaded 9mm pistol under the floorboard where Neri had reached, along with drug paraphernalia.

Neri was arraigned Saturday morning on charges of possessing criminal tools and drug paraphernalia. Information revealed in the courtroom indicated Neri, 34, had been previously been charged in Arizona with burglary, carrying a concealed weapon and being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm.

Police said that Neri told them, "I work for the Sinaloa (drug) cartel, and my job is to collect drug debts."

During the arraignment, the assistant prosecutor said that Neri told police he had the firearm to collect a drug debt of $3,300.

A source close to the investigation told 10TV News that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency put a hold on Neri due to his immigration status.
