Feds announce new audits, fines for employers

Federal officials have announced a new round of audits of hiring records to identify companies that hire illegal aliens.
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announcement from last month mentioned 1,897 investigations involving finds to companies of more than $15 million since the new enforcement strategy began last April. The companies under investigation were not identified.
Mark Johnson, Washington Retail Association’s (WRA) vice president of Government Affairs, said he was disappointed that the federal government was choosing to harass employers with audits and fines to address immigration reform.
