Ohio farmers say they are concerned about a plan for using a system called "E-Verify" to check for illegal immigrants. The system is digital and cross-references the employee's name and social security number with other federal information to verify they are a U.S. citizen.

But farmers say that could scare off legitimate workers who most of the farmers rely on for their business during the heavy crop seasons.

The proposed system has been called "an important safeguard for American workers who continue to lose jobs and wages to illegal aliens," by Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a nonprofit group that opposes illegal immigration, according to the Columbus Disptach.

And President Barack Obama has said he supports the E-verify system in conjunction with other measures.
