Costs of Illegal Immigration to State Match Amount of the Budget Deficit
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- While Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has called for increases in the sales tax and cuts in services to reduce the budget deficit of $11.2 billion, a population group has noted that the shortfall is about the same as the costs of illegal immigration to the state.
Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) says that a 2004 study indicated that Californias illegal alien population imposed a net cost of $9 billion per year on the states taxpayers just for education, medical care and incarceration. "After adjusting the figure for current costs and increases in the number of illegal aliens, it would exceed the states projected deficit," according to Diana Hull, the organizations president, "and this is a very conservative estimate."
Other states are taking steps to reduce illegal immigration and the burdens it imposes. Arizona, for instance, passed legislation requiring that employers use the E-verify system to check the work eligibility of employees. "Unfortunately, California is going the other direction, and taxpayers get stuck with the bill," said Hull.
The costs of illegal immigration to California are likely much higher. A 2007 study by Philip J. Romero, formerly a research economist at RAND, top economic adviser to Governor Pete Wilson and later Dean of the University of Oregon School of Business, estimated that illegal aliens in California receive somewhere between $10 and $38 billion more in state services than they pay in state taxes.
Schwarzenegger has responded to the budget crisis by ordering a special session of the state legislature to increase the sales tax by 1.5 percent, increase other taxes, and cut funds for education.
"California needs a special session of the legislature to deal with the problem of illegal immigration, beginning right now. If we dont stop illegal immigration, the costs will continue to escalate, deficits will continue to get larger and the tax burden will finally become unbearable, causing residents and businesses to relocate," Hull said.

IA's are a huge reason why voters keep saying no to any hospital improvements (which obviously leads to higher taxes). I personally will continue to vote no to any hospital funding until the IA problem gets dealt with. Even tho they are not saying it out loud, I feel a lot of voters are also thinking this.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

CALIFORNIA IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN FOR BALANCED BUDGET
SACRAMENTO, CA - State Republican lawmakers unveiled a package of 20 bills, aimed at saving money and balancing the state budget by targeting illegal ailens.
Assembly Republicans want to chip away at the state deficit by checking the immigration status of those getting state-funded social benefits and jobs. They especially want to crackdown on those who have committed crimes.
"California is on a financial life raft that is sinking, but at the same time, we continue to pull on more and more people on board," said Assemblyman Jim Silva (R) of Huntington Beach.
Many of the proposals concentrate on criminal activity because in 2006 - 2007, it cost the state roughly $850,000,000 million dollars to incarcerate more than 17,000 illegal immigrants.
Among the proposals:
- Adding ten years to prison sentences for felonies if the illegal had been previously deported.
- Checking the immigration status of DUI offenders
- Requiring local law enforcement to cooperate with INS
- Denying bail for gang-related or violent crimes
- And reporting dangerous juveniles to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation.
"To the extent we have criminal activity in our state, we should address it very, very vigorously" said state Senior Gil Cedillo (D) of Los Angeles, Vice-Chairman of the Latino Caucus.
"I think the law enforcement agencies in my city should be focused on crime and violence, which is starting to creep up," said San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
Assemblyman John Benoit(R) of Bermuda Dunes is a law enforcement veteran-turned politician, who says it's time cops are part of the solution.
"I have been involved in stopping, finding, and in some cases, deporting people here illegally. I think the rule of law is the reason the United States stands out among nations," said Assemblyman Benoit.
The federal government is supposed to help pay for jailing illegal immigrants who commit crimes, but California got reimbursed only $100,000,000 dollars last year, less than 13 percent of the actual costs.

I know, why bother paying for the funding of hospitals when we citizens can't even use them and if by chance they are't flooded with illegals we get huge bills we have to make payments on? The hospitals will oly close sooner or later under the burden of having to care for IA and their whole families.

I am negative today---
I guess I still am depressed after the elections:
"Im just waiting for the day Americans stand up and in one voice say no more money not one more cent until they are gone!!!!"
This is not about to happen. Most members of congress and state, county and city governments of Hispanic origins are trying to pass laws that take care of the illegals and encourage more to come.
California is a classic example of that. I know many will not agree with me, but I say --screw it, cut our losses, give CA to Mexico now. (Along with Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon.) Cofine the fight to fewer states and step it up---no immigratyion, legal of illegal, until we get rid ogf all the invaders.
Strict employment enforcement--take every dime from those who knowingly give American jobs to people who have entered our country illegally.
I am tired of all of it. The invaders and their aiders and abettors are not. They earn a living by insulting us and defying our laws. Nioone of us here get paid for being loyal Americans, nor should we, but I am so tired and that is how they are beating us.
Our own government gives them (LaRaza e.g.) money to fight to ignore the law and assist the illegals.
PS I am bloody tired of "No person is illegal".
